Martin Tractor is seeking an Assistant Controller to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess the skills necessary to advance and grow into the Controller position.
The Assistant Controller is responsible for management of the accounting department and the overall office activities in our business office in downtown Galesburg. This role also serves as a consultant and point of contact for managers within the organization, providing guidance on current budgetary information. This role will also work with managers to create a fiscal strategy that aligns with the goals of the organization. It will perform various complex accounting duties according to Martin Tractor policy.
Responsibilities
  • Review financials- make necessary corrections and /or adjustments. Trace and reconcile unusual variances.
  • Supervision of bookkeepers, assignment of work and evaluations.
  • Provide accounting and process assistance to parts, service and sales departments
  • Balance Sheet account reconciliations
  • Review accounts for use tax issues and calculate liability
  • Sales Tax Compliance
  • Annual Audit-CPA’s
  • Provide financial information to management by researching, analyzing accounting data, and preparing reports
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Oversee AP/AR process and sales processing
  • Develops, implements, and manages financial policies, practices, and internal controls to ensure compliance and optimize financial processes
  • Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees: following up on work results
  • Maintains financial staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Participate in a variety of special projects as request by senior management

  • Leads the review and distribution of financial data, crafting monthly, quarterly, and annual statements

  • Leadership in spearheading and overseeing projects from inception to successful completion

  • General accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as outlined by the financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB)
  • Exemplary financial management and leadership with proven critical thinking in decision making
Required Education And Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • 5 years of Accounting Experience
  • Understands financial concepts such as budgets, Return on Investment (ROI), Discounted Cash Flow (DCF), and Net Operating Return on Assets (NORA).
  • Knowledge of financial principles required for budgeting and strategic planning
  • Experience with financial statements, cash flow, and key financial ratios
