POSITION SUMMARY: The Fitness Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Fitness Director and fitness department in delivering an exceptional and inspiring wellness experience at Martis Camp. From the day-to-day operations and administrative duties of the Fitness Center to teaching and training personal clients, the Fitness Coordinator is a key leadership role within the department, and will help with the continued growth and success of the team and Member experience at Martis Camp.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: GYM OPERATIONS The Fitness Coordinator (FC) assists in the daily operations of the Fitness Center, which includes but is not limited to:
  • Opening and/or closing the gym each day for the Department
  • Hospitably and professionally greeting Members as they enter the Fitness Center
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of gym, such as wiping down and putting away gym equipment, stocking towels and waters, cleaning and tidying the Group Fitness Studio, and ensuring that the gym always upholds the highest standards of organization
  • Assisting in the summer operations of our pool deck, which includes but is not limited to prepping the area for summer classes, running towels to housekeeping as needed and re-stocking bathroom towels, and ensuring the deck always looks inviting for our Membership
  • Checking email, voicemail and fitness reservations throughout your shift
  • Updating and overseeing the Fitness Challenge board seasonally
  • Being available to spot lifts for Members, answer questions about our equipment and provide demos, getting beverages from fridge as requested, providing InBody scans for fitness assessments, etc.
ADMININSTRATIVE DUTIESIn this role, the FC is responsible for administrative duties such as:
  • Using our point-of-sale system, Jonas, to charge Members for drinks, group fitness classes, personal training sessions and special events
  • Tracking data and attendance for the gym, group fitness classes and personal training sessions
  • Responding to Member emails and voicemails in a professional, timely manner
  • Assisting with payroll for the department
  • Filing and organizing department paperwork
  • Maintaining and updating our reservations system and amending reservations per Member requests
GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTION & PERSONAL TRAININGThis position includes teaching and personal training opportunities, such as:
  • Leading 3-4 fitness classes during high seasons (summer and holidays), and 1-2 classes a week during shoulder, for an additional commission
  • Training 2-3 personal training clients each week (subject to busyness of season, and for an additional commission)
  • Creating fun, engaging and new programming throughout the year
MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONSThe FC is responsible for:
  • Creating department marketing collateral to promote and highlight new offerings, classes, and instructors
  • Working with our Creative Director to write fitness and wellness articles for the company newsletter each month
LEADERSHIPThe role also includes critical leadership responsibilities, including:
  • Acting as the on-site lead when the Fitness Director is away
  • Participating in company-wide initiatives, such as serving on the Safety Committee, to ensure the highest standards are upheld for the Department and company
  • Maintaining service alignment across departments as necessary, including Men’s Locker Room, Ladies Locker Room, Spa and Food and Beverage.
  • Creating and setting the tone of a warm, welcoming and positive environment in the Fitness Center
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND LICENSES:
  • Bachelor’s degree in health and exercise-related field (preferred but not required)
  • Mandatory personal training certification (NASM, ACE, TPI, NSCA, CSCS, etc)
  • 2-3 years minimum personal training and group fitness teaching experience
  • Professional, extremely polished and welcoming demeanor
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal; ability to lead a room and team
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • An enthusiastic demeanor and desire to exceed Member and client expectations
  • A team player who loves to see everyone thrive and succeed, from Members to teammates
  • Responsible, self-motivated, goal-oriented and dependable
  • Well organized and detail oriented
  • Willingness to acquire new skills, obtain new certifications and further your education each year (with support of company ongoing education stipend)
  • Proficient with Word, Excel and Canva
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (with or without accommodation)
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, kneel, stand, twist, sit, and walk throughout the day
  • Ability to stand/ walk for up to 8 hours at a time
  • Ability to twist, kneel, bend repeatedly when moving inventory, assisting members, and during site clean-up
