Mary Campbell Center is Hiring an Activities Coordinator Near Wilmington, DE

POSITION SCOPE:

The Mary Campbell Center is first, last, and always, home to 68 residents. The Activities Coordinator is responsible for coordinating The Center's diverse activities and assuring these are delivered with a high degree of quality in a truly homelike environment in which MCC residents live with respect, personal dignity, and independence to the fullness of their abilities. Under the direction of the Aquatics, Physical Development, Activities and Recreation Specialists, the Coordinator shall plan, organize, and implement a diversified activities program that includes in-house activities, community field trips, aquatics and physical development experiences for the residents, respites and community participants. The Activities Coordinator gives direction to Certified Activity Assistants and volunteers and works closely with Activities Team to coordinate special projects and seasonal events. The Activities Coordinator will work reliably, effectively, efficiently, and with respect for residents, staff, families, volunteers, professional consultants, and the physical environment of The Center, while adhering to the MCC Guiding Principles and Mission.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

The Activities Coordinator at the Mary Campbell Center must 1) be a good person of high character who consistently works with a positive attitude and demonstrates compassion and understanding for residents with varying degrees of disability, and 2) possess an associate's degree and three to five years' experience working in a recreation/activities role or activity certification. 3) have experience in coordinating group activities. 4) The Activities Coordinator must have the ability to motivate participation, generate enthusiasm, create and coordinate appropriate programs, and be capable of supervising Certified Activity Assistants and volunteers. 5) The Activities Coordinator must hold a valid driver's license, be 21 years or older with at least three years driving experience with a clean driving record. In addition, he/she should possess verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in utilizing technology tools to manage program reporting and achieve department goals. Previous successful experience working with those with disabilities and/or in a rehabilitative setting is preferred.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • In partnership with Aquatics, Physical Development, Activities and Recreation Specialists, develops and coordinates implementation of diverse activity experiences (in-house, physical exercise, individual programs and community outings) suited to the unique needs, abilities and interests of residents, respite care, and community participants.
  • Supports the Recreation Specialist in the development of recreation programming, implements programs to keep them engaging and enjoyable.
  • Ensures resident care needs are met during all activities conducted under auspices of the Activities Department, both within The Mary Campbell Center and at external events.
  • Remains aware of resident's physical abilities/limitations/changes in medical situations and reports any change in resident condition to the Neighborhood Nurse.
  • Works closely with the Interdisciplinary Team to promote participation and problem solving.
  • Documents attendance and maintains performance data in accordance with goals and objectives. May be assigned to complete comprehensive functional assessments and quarterly progress notes as needed.
  • Communicates department needs with the Activities Department Specialists.
  • Assists with seasonal Special Olympics Programs as coach or support staff. Coordinates training and participation of residents in other out-of-Center competitive events.
  • Supervises and assists with training of Certified Activity Aides, volunteers, and other assigned staff.
  • Provides input for student and college intern evaluations.
  • Follows departmental procedures for ordering, purchasing, and accounting of program needs.
  • Participates in in-service training programs when offered and as required.
  • Brings any safety hazards to the attention of the Programs & Community Services Manager or appropriate department head.
  • Assures positive public relations with community volunteers and organizations.
  • Completes all mandatory in-services and attends staff meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
