Mary Cariola Children's Center is Hiring a BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTION SPECIALIST - RESIDENTIAL Near Town of Perinton, NY

Pay Rate: $55,120-$62,608 per year

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate on the residential interdisciplinary team to establish, implement and maintain appropriate therapeutic programming for all residents; addressing environmental safeguards and possible effects on individual rights when needed
  • Aide in conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) for each resident and each of their maladaptive behaviors
  • Work collaboratively with the various disciplines of the team to develop Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) per OPWDD regulations and as determined by the individual needs of the residents; regularly reviewing and updating plans as needed
  • Work with each resident's psychiatric/mental health provider to monitor the use of maladaptive behavioral control medications and promote their health and well-being
  • Attend psychiatric and/or counseling appointments for the residents providing medical personnel with needed data and reports on behavioral progress
  • Provide on-going consultation, support, modeling and training for residential staff to accurately and consistently implement behavior support programs and SCIP-r techniques
  • Attend case reviews maintaining accurate and current records on each resident receiving formal behavioral programming (including data collection and administrative procedural requirements for behavioral programming)
  • Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on the residents’ progress and needs to the interdisciplinary team
  • Provide monthly reports and behavioral data to the Residential Safety and Special Review Committees
  • Meet regularly with the Consulting Psychologist
  • Assist in maintaining communication with parents/guardians regarding their child’s behavioral programming
  • Other duties may be assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must qualify as a Level 1 or 2 Behavioral Intervention Specialist
    • Level 1 BIS – have at least as Master’s degree from a program in a clinical and/or treatment field of psychology and have documented training in assessment techniques and behavioral support plan development; have at least 5 years of experience working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities including the devising, implementation, and monitoring of behavioral support plans; and/or providing supervision and training to others in the implementation of behavior support plans.
    • Level 2 BIS – must meet one (1) of the qualifications below:
  • Have obtained National board certification in behavior analysis (BCBA); and have a Master’s degree in behavior analysis, or a field closely related to clinical or community psychology which is approved by OPWDD review; or
  • Have a Master’s degree in a clinical or treatment field in psychology, social work, school psychology, or a related human services field; or a New York State license in Mental Health Counseling; and have or obtain OPWDD-approved specialized training or experience in assessment techniques and behavioral support plan development; and have provided behavioral services for an agency in the OPWDD system continuously since December 31, 2012; or
  • Have a Master’s degree in a clinical or treatment field in psychology, social work, school psychology, or a related human services field; and function in the Psychologist I or Psychologist II Civil Service titles of New York State; or
  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in a human services field; and have provided behavioral services for an agency in the OPWDD system continuously since December 31, 2012; and either: is actively working toward a Master’s degree in an applied area of psychology, social work, or special education; or completes at least one graduate-level course in an applied health service area of applied psychology, social work, or special education each year of employment.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English including interpreting documents such as safety rules and policy and procedure manuals
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree and National Board Certification in Behavior Analysis (BCBA)
  • Note: if you do not have a BCBA certification, you will be required to work towards it during employment
