Maryland Dance Project is Hiring a Part-Time Dance Instructor (2024-2025 Season) Near Columbia, MD

Maryland Dance Project is expanding! Former NFL dancers Jess Bayuk and Emily Whitacre are proud to announce Columbia’s newest youth dance program. We are a local, women-owned small business with highly attended classes for ages 15 , who have served over 400 dancers and created a transformational and inclusive community. We have a proven track record of training dancers to become professionals with programs like our popular Stadium Series. Starting fall 2024, we will be offering a comprehensive youth program for dancers starting at 2 years old, where every dancer receives the care and education they need to have fun and grow. 

The future of MDDP is bright, with programs for competitive and pre-professional dancers on the horizon.

Qualifications

  • Strong passion for dance education and a commitment to inspiring students of all ages and backgrounds
  • Availability to teach weekday evenings and Saturday mornings
  • A strong foundation in one or more dance styles
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to plan and execute engaging dance lessons and activities
  • Demonstrates knowledge of dance techniques, terminology, and teaching methodologies and ability to transfer that to students of all ages and abilities
  • Confident and warm communication skills; receptive to feedback
  • Creativity, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude towards teaching and learning
  • Professional dance experience OR Bachelor’s degree in Dance required
  • At least one full year of dance teaching experience required
  • Candidates available to teach 2x or more per week will get priority 
  • Columbia, MD 21046: Relocate before starting work (Required)

Responsibilities

  • As a dance instructor, you will play an important role in inspiring and instructing students in the art of dance
  • From teaching foundational techniques to choreographing routines, you will have the opportunity to share your expertise and creativity with enthusiastic dancers
  • Plan and deliver engaging dance classes that cater to students of different ages and skill levels
  • Teach foundational dance techniques, terminology, and principles while fostering creativity and expression
  • Choreograph dance combinations for weekly classes and the end-of-year recital while helping with other choreography for workshops, competitions, and showcases.
  • Select costumes and music for recital
  • Provide constructive feedback and guidance to students to help them improve their skills and reach their full potential
  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel empowered to explore and develop their love for dance
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff members to ensure curriculum cohesiveness and consistency through classes
  • Stay informed about current trends, developments, and best practices in dance education
  • Attend monthly all-staff meetings, individual meetings with Directors, and help at community events, workshops and birthday parties as needed
  • Play an proactive role in planning, preparing, and staffing our end-of-year recital
