Position: Part-time appointment in the Game Design Program at the Maryland Institute College of Art (Game/Play) Job Description: This faculty position will teach a section of Game/Play during the Spring ‘22 semester. This is an introductory course about game culture, theory, design and development. Students will play, make and analyze games in order to build a common and more extensive vocabulary to discuss and understand the form. Principles from traditional board games, sports games, and party games will be analyzed and this analysis will then be applied to designing two paper-based games over the course of the semester. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in related field Experience with player-centric, iterative Game Design practices Prior games-related experience including college-level teaching, workshop leading, or tutorial production is preferred Candidate must successfully complete a full background check Conditions of Employment: Satisfactory Background Check Additional Information: Salary: Commensurate with experience and college policy. Physical demands and work environment: Physical Demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. (may be adjusted depending on position) Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Required training: Exhibitions Department Installation Guide and Policy handbook, MICA Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment.
