Summary: Part-time appointment in Photography to teach introductory-level courses in B&W darkroom and digital photography. The Photography Department of Maryland Institute College of Art invites applications for this part-time faculty position in Spring 2022, Fall 2022, Spring 2023. Job Description: This part-time faculty position is for our introductory course, PH 201: Silver and Ink. This course introduces the fundamental techniques and aesthetic vision of photography, from traditional analogue roots to contemporary digital skills. Students learn to operate SLR-style cameras for proper exposure, using both film and digital capture methods, and learn appropriate workflows to transform film negatives into fine-prints in a traditional darkroom, as well as to edit and output archival inkjet prints in our digital print studio. The course includes demonstrations, lab work, readings, field assignments, and critiques. The candidate will be capable of teaching and mentoring undergraduate students, be proficient in traditional and digital techniques, and have a broad understanding of contemporary directions in the field of Photography. The faculty position will teach a minimum of 3-credits per semester at an art school nationally known for its dedication to teaching excellence, a rigorous liberal arts curriculum and the importance of the fine arts. The interdisciplinary nature of the Department and College requires that faculty maintain an active professional practice and meaningfully contribute in a variety of areas. In addition to teaching, all part-time faculty are expected to pursue research and/or professional engagements that contribute to the educational mission of the department and college. Requirements: MFA degree Knowledge of traditional B&W film photography and digital capture and workflow using Adobe Lightroom Classic and Adobe Photoshop Experience teaching Photography at the college-level beyond graduate assistantships is preferred. The employee must occasionally lift up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. (may be adjusted depending on position) Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Required training: Exhibitions Department Installation Guide and Policy handbook, MICA Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment.
