Job Title : Digital Printing Assistant, Part-time, Temporary

Department : Technology Systems & Services

FLSA Status : Non-Exempt

Reports to : Digital Printing Coordinator

Grade : 3

General purpose : The Digital Printing Assistant is a technician who helps monitor the digital printing facilities. They assist in the operation of digital printing, cutting and fabrication equipment for the MICA community.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities :

Tracking and maintaining inventory.

Monitoring equipment and ensuring that it is in proper working order.

Following sales and accounting procedures to facilitate proper pricing and payment for sales and services.

Operating printing, fabrication, and cutting equipment; including equipment and software training, learning maintenance procedures, operating equipment, working with clients, and ensuring proper reproduction of printed material.

Printing large and small format inkjet prints on archival fine art and inkjet media.

Assisting with training of students in the proper use of equipment and systems.

Operating the digital printing press.

Assisting with the selection of new papers, supplies, and equipment.

Ensuring the Digital Print Lab website is updated with current information regarding changing policies and hours.

Contacting vendors as needed.

Working with clients in a professional manner, utilizing strong customer service skills.

Having the ability to identify and troubleshoot postscript errors in documents.

Possessing basic math and measurement comprehension.

Having excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

Having the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Assisting in creating equipment use and conduct policies.

Assisting in maintaining the aesthetics and display of the lab.

Understanding color and space, knowledge of fine art and design.

Possessing a strong design sense and topography skills.

Performing other related duties as assigned.

Required essential skills and experience :

Minimum 6 months experience working in a digital printing environment.

Graphic Design skills.

Ability to run Digital print press hardware and software.

Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat.

Experience in Adobe Creative Suite is required.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Experience with vinyl cutting equipment.

Valued but not required skills and experience :

Ability to maintain, troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance on all facility equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Ability to : use Photoshop and to understand the program’s function in a digital printing environment.

Knowledge of : PC and Mac operating systems

Minimum qualifications :

Education : some college coursework preferred

Experience : Minimum 6 months experience working in a digital printing environment or a background in Graphic

Design.

Preferred Qualifications :

Technical knowledge to maintain, troubleshoot and do preventative maintenance on all facility equipment.

Work environment : While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.

The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.

Required training : Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment.
