Job Location WASHINGTON COLLEGE - CHESTERTOWN, MD Position Type Regular Staff (FT)
DescriptionReporting to the VP of Facilities, the Controls Technician operates, maintains, and expands our building and energy related controls platform consisting of Siemens and Johnson Controls infrastructure as we grow our systems.Essential Functions
  • Ensure Preparedness -Contribute to maintaining the JCI, and Siemens controls infrastructure; Contribute to maintaining the Accredited Status of the College by following documented procedures, and maintaining current documentation necessary for audits; and Contribute to design and improvement initiatives of our business, and workflow processes
  • Participate in Monitoring Equipment and Workflow -Maintains the status of all controls connected equipment using the Siemens/JCI controls platform/ system. Utilize Daily Reports to guide assignments and corresponding activity. Interface with the Director of Operations/facility to determine where operating conflicts may occur and work to prevent/remedy those conflicts.
  • Energy as a Service Agreement Compliance -Checks and maintains temperature ranges, schedules and temporary overrides in order to insure compliance with our Energy Agreement
  • Perform Technical Work- Using calibration standards, ISO/ANSI guidelines, manufacturers recommendations/procedures; perform evaluation, calibration, repair, upgrade, cleaning, and maintenance to controls systems
  • Troubleshoot and Repair- Document and communicate issues, collaborate with the Director of Operations/facility to troubleshoot issues and resolve problems, both technical and operational
  • Participate in Maintaining the Calibration Database- Capture all equipment status and movement within the system, compare daily/weekly actuals to baseline conditions as well as detailed data regarding calibration results.
  • Manage Expectations and Ensures Satisfaction-Proactively seek and understand our needs, actively sets and manages faculty and management expectations, and ensures that our end result meets or exceeds their needs. Constructively acts upon any shortcomings by engaging end users to resolve any open issues.
  • Supervising On-sites- Supervises and performs on-site calibrations, repairs and maintains test equipment at customer facilities of subcontractors. Reports to the Director of Facility/Operations/Grounds.
Qualifications
  • Education:Evidence of technical education is required. An Associates Degree in Electronics or Controls Training is preferred.
  • Experience:Three or more years of career-level experience in industry, with two or more of those years interfacing with end users, and showing progressive growth of responsibility. Must understand all aspects of controls including wiring, control points and software logic and operation. Light HVAC repair experience a plus.
  • Exposure:Practical understanding and working knowledge of calibration and repair of general-purpose controls equipment. This knowledge would optimally consist of, but not be limited to, Low to High Frequency Spectrum Analyzers, Low to High Frequency Signal Generators, DMMs of all sorts, Logic Analyzers, Low to High Frequency Network Analyzers, Optical Test Equipment and Multi-Function Calibrators. Experience in Torque and Dimensional Calibration will be a plus. An ability to read schematics and blueprints and repair test equipment from them is required.
  • Communication and End User Interfacing Experience:Some end user interface experience is required, along with good written/verbal communication skills, and presentation skills. Use of Microsoft Windows and Office programs is also required.
  • Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
    • Work involves moving or lifting up to 50 pounds of equipment, materials, and tools.
    • Involves climbing extension ladders, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or movement within confined areas including equipment, crawl and attic spaces.
    • Must be willing and able to work in all buildings or outdoors in all seasons.
    • Must be able to operate power tools and equipment.
    • Near visual acuity for reading instructions, manuals, specifications, electrical prints and boiler operation and testing.
    • May be required to work evenings, nights and weekends.
    • Required to take on-call duty approximately once a month and must be available for emergency calls during this time.
