PositionSummary:

Thisposition will provide comprehensive school social work services toparents, students and school staff, addressing barriers that limit a studentfrom receiving full benefit from their educational experience. Respond to referralsfrom school administration, parents, teachers, the Student Support Team, theSpecial Education Committee and others by providing direct services and byassisting families in accessing appropriate community resources.

 

MinimumQualifications:

  • Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate(ESA) certificate with School Social Worker endorsement
  • Excellentoral and written communication skills
  • WashingtonState driver’s license or evidence of mobility
  • Successful experience atappropriate grade level preferred
  • Experience and/or training withcultural, ethnic, and language diversity preferred

  • Knowledge and skills for direct and indirect intervention including:counseling on an individual, group, or family basis
  • Abilityto consulting with administrators, teachers, parents, and otherprofessionals about student problems and appropriate change strategies
  • Ability to network with school programsand community agencies to provide essential services for families and children
  • Ability to understand the knowledge, skills, and processesrequired for effective casework practice
  • Demonstrated knowledgeof the school social work profession including associated laws (IDEA, ADA,compulsory attendance, etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ethical and professionalissues and standards
  • Demonstrated knowledge of foundationsof school psychology and the role and function of the school social worker
  • Demonstrated knowledge of understandingof child development, psychopathology, social and environmental conditioning,cultural diversity, and family systems

 

Essential Job Functions:

This list of essential job functions is notexhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, theemployee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:

  • Serve on student support teams and specialeducation committees
  • Review student records to identify previousbarriers and/or interventions
  • Conduct parent interviews to acquiresocio-developmental information as needed for special education referral
  • Analyze information gained through record reviewsand interviews to determine environmental impacts and appropriate resourceneeds; integrate gained information into a written report and oral presentation
  • Attend and participate in Manifestation meetings
  • Interview students and parents to discuss issuesrelated to non-attendance and develop a plan of action
  • Assist the school in following school boardregulations for excessive absences and truancy; attend student support teammeetings and court intervention
  • Develop and implement professional developmenttraining for educational staff and parents, as requested
  • Provide individual and/or group counseling
  • Respond to referrals requesting verification ofresidence
  • Participate in professional development activitiesaimed at current trends and best practices for the provision of comprehensiveschool social work services
  • Conduct home visits as a method to access thefamily and conduct interviews in response to school referrals
  • Maintain an ongoing liaison with community agenciesand other resources to meet student needs; refers parents and student toagencies when appropriate
  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite andregular work hours
  • Professionally interact with students, staff, and public
  • Establish and maintain professional contacts withstudents
  • Comply with alldistrict policies and procedures
  • Comply with the Code of Professional Conduct
  • Performrelated duties as assigned
