General Summary/Overview StatementMGB Behavioral & Mental Health is an enterprise clinical service that supports and collaborates with all behavioral health d epartment s and services across Mass General Brigham . Reporting to the Behavioral & Mental Health Inpatient Program Manager , the Resource Specialist supports system initiat iv es by remotely supporting behavioral health services across M ass General Brigham’s emergency departments, medical floors, and behavioral health inpatient u nits. Th e Resource Specialist will work closely with the Program Manager and the Behavioral & Mental Health access team to facilitate initiatives across the system that i mprove patient throughput and access . Per diem employees will be contacted to provide coverage based upon staffing needs of the team. There is a requirement of rotating holiday coverage (likely 3-4 holidays per calendar year) as well as a willingness to cover at least 1 weekend shift per month.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Facilitat e referrals for various levels of behavioral health care for patients awaiting treatment across several MGB emergency departments
  • Communicat e and document bed search results and barriers to placement
  • Obtain insurance authorization for patients upon confirmation of disposition
  • Provide daily updates to insurance companies regarding boarding patients as needed
  • Implement DMH Escalation protocol for long-stay ED boarders, including contact with insurance and collaboration with DMH, inpatient units, and ED clinicians around placement difficulties
  • Coordinate outpatient referrals for patients discharging from the ED and/or inpatient psychiatry unit as requested
  • Monitor system-wide capacity and help facilitate admissions reviews by inpatient units as requested
  • Coordinate with ED clinicians regarding support needs and progress
  • Document and track tasks in medical record
  • Assist with data collection and tracking
  • Respond to phone calls to central behavioral health call line along with other resource specialists
  • Provide cross-coverage for other behavioral health resource specialists as requested
  • Attend department meetings as needed
  • Assist with other department tasks as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required , master’s degree preferred; concentration in Social Work , Psychology or Health Care preferred
  • Experience with the mental health care field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required
  • Excellent judgement and organization skills
  • Ability to be flexible and resourceful
  • Assessment and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with mental health treatments and services, systems of care and community resources
  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel, Word , PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Ability to work independently
