Mass General Brigham is Hiring an Infection Preventionist Near Somerville, MA

Summary

The Infection Preventionist for Healthcare at Home (HaH) is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the Infection Prevention functions of HaH IC, one of the site teams of MGB Infection Control. The Infection Preventionist, reporting to the Director of Infection Control at MGB, must have knowledge and experience in infection prevention and control principles and practice, the ability to make evidence-based decisions, excellent problem-solving skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills.

MGB is in an active change management environment and the Infection Preventionist will need to demonstrate flexibility and open mindedness as the contours of this position will actively evolve over time.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision and in collaboration with the MGB Director of Infection Control, the Infection Preventionist will

1. Implement throughout HaH, system infection prevention and control goals, plans, policies, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, regulatory/legal requirements and objectives of the organization.

2. Implement surveillance, remediation, and reporting of infections, including outbreak detection and response.

3. Conduct regular Environment of Care rounds and report findings to appropriate local and system leadership.

4. Support continuous improvement of infection prevention and control practices.

5. Function as a site liaison to regulatory agencies and public health authorities.

6. Evaluate the site-specific infection control program by identifying strategies that address the risk of infection transmission.

7. Oversee and conduct HaH educational efforts related to infection prevention and control.

8. Implement, in collaboration with MGB Occupational Health Services, policies and procedures to assess, mitigate, and respond to occupational infection risk.

9. Collaborate with other stakeholders (e.g., Environmental Health and Safety, Compliance, Facilities, Real Estate, etc) as appropriate.

10. Act as NHSN site administrator when assigned by MGB Director of Infection Control.

11. Participate in IPCC Working Groups and other activities as assigned.

12. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in Infection Control, Public Health, Epidemiology, or Statistics preferred; Masters in Healthcare Management or another relevant field is acceptable.

2. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred upon hire; if not CIC at hire, must be prepared to sit for CIC within 2 years of hire.

3. Current Massachusetts' licensure as a registered nurse preferred but not required.

4. Minimum 3 years of related work experience required.

5. Knowledge and experience in

a. HaH regulatory and other requirements related to Infection Prevention and Control

b. implementation of CDC National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) surveillance and other surveillance for healthcare associated infections

c. application of commonly used performance metrics including Vizient, Leapfrog, CMS, others , as appropriate to HaH.

Special Requirements

1. Must be available to work in the case of a facility-declared emergency.

2. Must be available to assist during regulatory agency reviews.

3. Must be available to work on-site.
