The Associate Director of Development (ADD) is a key member of the Institutional Advancement Department and reports to the Senior Director of Development. In this role, the ADD is responsible for ideating and executing strategies to engage new and current donors, faculty, staff, community members and corporations throughout the entire donor lifecycle. This role also provides key support to the volunteer leadership of MCLA Foundation Inc and the MCLA Pathways Campaign Cabinet.
This position is charged with the design, management, and execution of MCLA's annual fundraising program, with a strong focus on direct cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors, while also building a pipeline of prospective donors. This position works closely with other senior members of the division to set annual targets and strategic long-term priorities for the development department, in support of the MCLA's mission, vision, goals, and objectives.
DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leads the development, organization, and execution of a multi-channel annual fund program including: face-to-face and phone solicitation, direct mail fundraising, and online fundraising.
Oversees and manages all aspects of the annual #MCLAGives Day of Giving and Giving Tuesday as well as any smaller, bespoke crowdfunding campaigns.
Leads and oversees the planning and execution of signature fundraising and stewardship events (Taconic Society Reception, Golf Classic, Endowment Summit, Scholarship Luncheon etc.)
Manage and solicit a portfolio of 75-100 gift prospects ($1,000 per gift). Travel to meet existing and prospective donors. Initiate contacts with potential donors. Develop appropriate cultivation strategies, working closely with Institutional Advancement staff.
Work closely with the Advancement team to engage new stakeholders and existing donors and convert this group to major donor status.
Manage donor acknowledgement and stewardship and ensure that it dovetails into any specialized Campaign stewardship activities.
Writes copy of individual gift acknowledgment letters for use by advancement services staff, personalizes letters for leadership, and creates 1:1 impact reports for donor stewardship as needed.
Manages gift crediting and acknowledgment procedures; Reconcile all reports, develop custom reports, and determine appeal codes for Raiser's Edge.
Helps provide support to volunteer leaders of the Campaign Cabinet, Campaign Division leadership, and other fundraising committees.
Coordinates and organizes gatherings related to the campaign and other fundraising activities.
Attends meetings as needed to support assigned volunteers.
Works with Advancement Ambassadors to develop ways to embed student focus in appeals and stewardship though videos, handwritten notes, personal donor communications (ie. Thankview), etc.
Manages annual impact reporting process for endowed fund and named scholarship donors.
Develops and direct the activities of the MCLA Foundation's Donor Relations Committee; providing vision and support, recruiting new members, managing meetings and activities, and enabling this group to encourage philanthropic support from their classmates and peers.
Participates in the moves management process with gift officers and provide leads on potential upgraded donors from annual to major giving.
Develops and manages expense budget for annual fund program and assigned events.
Monitors and reports the monthly progress of annual fund results compared to financial goals.
Prepares quarterly Campaign reconciliation reports.
Works with advancement staff to ensure proper upkeep and maintenance of donor data in the Raiser's Edge related to the Fund for MCLA and other fundraising campaigns.
Openness and ability to travel for donor visits or regional events and programs. Some weekends and evenings are required.
Performs other duties and/projects as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree.
Three years of successful experience in an administrative role.
Fundraising background preferred.
Ability to write and edit letters and proposals.
Detailed oriented.
Interest in the MCLA (Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts) mission and a dedication to promoting the organization's fundraising priorities through building strong relationships.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Demonstrates skill and enthusiasm for working with people from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated record of completing assignments.
Experience with Raiser's Edge or another donor database preferred.
