Medical Assistant II
- (3290574)GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Under the general direction of practice nurse, the Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring a smooth operational patient flow during clinic sessions. He/she is responsible for preparing exam rooms, prepping patients for their exams, assisting the practice nurse as requested, scheduling appointments and ancillary testing requirements. The Medical Assistant maintains exam room inventory at par levels and provides for a safe, orderly and clean patient care environment. He/she promotes patient satisfaction by delivering highly professional patient care and excellent service.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Review the daily schedule of patients and be certain that all appropriate preparations are in place to facilitate efficient patient flow for the day.
2. Facilitates flow of patients from waiting room to examination rooms in a timely manner and as close as possible to the scheduled appointment time.
3. Obtains vital signs, height and weight, pain level and prepares patient for the physician or nurse evaluation. Promptly informs the nurse or physician of any significant status change or acute symptoms. Inputs vitals into LMR and updates LMR as appropriate.
4. Insure appropriate stocking of all examination rooms with supplies, requisitions and all materials necessary for efficient patient care during the course of the clinical session.
5. Examination room turnaround is to include and review the following: exam table paper, freshen pillow, residual materials from exiting patient, any floor or room debris, and insure that the examination room is ready for the next patient.
6. Assists practice nurse with infusions.
7. Checks the prescription phone line and asks the patient for prescription refills during check-in. Participates with the approval process for medications that require insurance coordination and prior authorization.
8. Maintains all ordering par levels and anticipates supply management needs for all of the clinical and administrative operations.
9. Performs C-Arm maintenance and alerts the Administrative Manager of any functional problems.
10. Performs daily check list of the code cart and refrigerator.
11. Coordinate practice activities with nurse to ensure appropriate level and quality of services including maintaining supplies of medications and equipment.
12. At the conclusion of the work day, the Medical Assistant is responsible to round the unit and insure that each examination room is patient ready for the next clinical day.
13. As necessary assist in patient check in and collecting co-payments as appropriate, answer practice phones when time allows and schedule/reschedule patient appointments.
14. Participate in all quality and safety assurance activities of the practice with respect to patient care.
15. Participate in meetings of clinical and administrative personnel as requested.
16. All other duties assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Medical Assistant certificate preferred
Demonstrates basic knowledge of medical terminology
