Mathys+Potestio / The Creative Party® is Hiring a Financial Analyst III Near Charlotte, AR

This is a 12-month contract role that will be Hybrid in Charlotte, NC with a pay range of $48-$52.59/HR.SummaryThe Grid Integration Interconnection department collaborates with internal teams and third-party customers to handle generator interconnection requests for solar, battery, and other energy sources. This department works cross-functionally with Power Grid Operations, the Renewable Service Center, Resource Planning, Finance, and other teams to manage the interconnection queue and meet carbon plan targets. The Interconnection Business Controls team within this department oversees financial processes related to interconnection procedures. This includes working with Account Managers and other departments to develop processes for state and federal regulated interconnection procedures, performing financial analysis on projects, modeling cost allocation across multiple generators, tracking payments and securities, and managing invoicing and refund processes. The role involves gaining a thorough understanding of the interconnection queue process and financial analysis of facilities during the study and construction phases.
ResponsibilitiesInterconnection Queue Financial Support:
  • Act as the subject matter expert on interconnection procedures for NC, SC, and FERC jurisdiction projects.
  • Develop expertise in interconnection cost allocation required by state and federal regulators, focusing on cost responsibility for network upgrades identified in the cluster study process.
  • Understand cost recovery mechanisms and their implications for accounting and financial statements.
  • Maintain and allocate costs incurred for each cluster as projects move to construction, and provide monthly deliverables to Finance and Project Controls for journal entries.
  • Prepare financial true-up analysis for engineering study costs versus estimates for Affected System and Provisional Service Requests, recovering costs from external customers.
  • Serve as a data analyst in executing the Cost Allocation Reporting Tool (CART) application project plan, an in-house tool for tracking estimate revisions, cost allocation, and project financial data.
  • Participate in the design and development of the CART application.
Interconnection Queue Metrics Support
  • Create and analyze reports for leadership, including KPI metrics and actionable insights. This involves preparing metrics for construction costs, schedules, and on-time completion of studies and contracts.
  • Analyze metric results, gather feedback from stakeholders, and identify actions and root causes as necessary.
  • Use PowerBI to report and present metric evaluation results.
Process Development And Automation
  • Support the implementation of a new interconnection management system by participating in process mapping, data readiness, and other implementation requirements.
  • Perform data clean-up in relevant source systems to support the interconnection queue and evolving KPI and financial reporting needs.
  • Facilitate business process discussions with stakeholders across departments, creating process maps and establishing roles and responsibilities as new needs arise.
  • Support the development of new reporting and PowerBI dashboard requests.
  • Explore and develop automation opportunities for future true-up processes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Utility experience, particularly in Transmission and Distribution
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
  • Strong financial acumen
  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or an MBA
  • Proficiency in Word and PowerPoint; experience with Salesforce, Powerclerk, PeopleSoft, Webi Financial Querying, Power Plan, Power BI, or other enterprise systems
  • Experience in designing new processes
  • Excellent written and oral communication, facilitation, and people engagement skills
  • Strong process documentation and internal control skills
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills
Basic/Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, vlookup, sumif, multiple if statements, and arrays
  • Ability to learn PowerBI report development and basic SQL
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with both financial and non-financial audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Adaptability to new industry standards and business processes
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to quickly adapt to change
Minimum Required Work Experience: 6 years
