General Statement of Duties:
Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, the Children’s Librarian helps develop, implement, evaluate children’s and young adult programming. The teacher creates a welcoming environment for families and helps select and display materials.
Qualifications:
The following requirements are established for this position:
1. Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent experience
2. Understanding of child development and children’s literature
3. Knowledge and understanding of issues related to literacy
4. Teaching/facilitation experience
5. Background in early literacy or child development
6. Ability to develop and work as a team, including work with community partners
7. Someone who takes initiative
8. Proficient in use of computer software
9. Ability to learn and implement various techniques in children’s and young adult education
10. An interest in literacy and community partnerships
11. Other duties as assigned
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Recommending and display of materials for the children's and young adult collection
2. Monitoring behavior of children
3. Maintaining collection, including shelving
4. Direct staff
5. Creating educational and recreational programs for children, such as storytelling events
Leads library service in the children’s departments with duties regarding collection development, programming, and public relations.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
