The Food Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting the Food Safety Manager in making sure that company is adhering to all food safety rules, guidelines and law as set forth by the Food and Drug Administration, local health authorities and company policies and procedures. The Food Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting the Food Safety Manager in all aspects of the food safety program and communication.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with developing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive food safety program that adheres to HACCP principles, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and regulatory requirements
  • Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that educate employees of the company to execute food safety programs correctly
  • Assist the training and development teams to implement a comprehensive food safety training program
  • Stay up-to-date on federal, state, and local food safety regulations
  • Assist the Food Safety Manager with accurate documentation of food safety inspections, audits, and training records
  • Collaborate with the Food Safety Manager, Food Execution Managers (FEMs), Operations, Category Managers (CMs) and other departments to ensure food safety is integrated throughout the entire process
  • Manage reporting and follow-up of third-party food safety assessments and regulatory health inspections
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications: Education

  • Bachelors degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field (preferred) or
  • High School Diploma and Certified Food Safety Manager (ServSafe or equivalent) Instructor/Proctor Certification preferred

Qualifications: Experience

  • 2 years of experience in food safety, quality assurance or 5 years of experience in food service operations

  • Knowledge of HACCP principles, GMPs and regulatory compliance
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Passion for education, food safety and public health
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask
