May River Montessori is Hiring a Primary Lead Teacher Near Bluffton, SC

May River Montessori is an educational institution committed to inspiring a love of learning, compassion, and acceptance within an authentic Montessori community. May River Montessori is a non-profit, tax exempt, 501 C-3 corporation. 

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Montessori Primary Lead Teacher to join our educational team. The primary lead teacher will create a nurturing and stimulating environment where children aged 3 to 6 can develop their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills following the Montessori philosophy and methodology.

Responsibilities:

  • Classroom Management:
    • Establish and maintain a well-organized, child-centered classroom environment that promotes independence, exploration, and learning.
    • Set up and maintain Montessori materials and activities in accordance with the principles of the Montessori method.
    • Foster a culture of respect, kindness, and cooperation among students.
  • Curriculum Development and Implementation:
    • Design and implement a developmentally appropriate Montessori curriculum that meets each child’s individual needs and interests.
    • Plan and facilitate lessons and activities across various Montessori areas, including practical life, sensorial, language, mathematics, and cultural subjects.
    • Incorporate hands-on, experiential learning opportunities into the curriculum to promote active engagement and exploration.
    • Adhere to the alignment of the Montessori curriculum map, scope, and sequence with state standards for Kindergarten students.
  • Observation and Assessment:
    • Conduct ongoing observation and assessment of each child’s progress and development.
    • Maintain accurate records of student assessments, observations, and anecdotal notes.
    • Use assessment data to inform instructional planning and individualized support for students.
  • Parent Communication and Collaboration:
    • Establish and maintain open, positive communication with parents and caregivers through regular meetings, conferences, and written updates.
    • Collaborate with parents to support each child’s educational journey and address any concerns or questions they may have.
    • Conduct two (2) Parent Teacher Conferences per school year.
  • Professional Development:
    • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to deepen understanding of Montessori philosophy, methodology, and best practices.
    • Stay informed about current trends and research in early childhood education and incorporate new knowledge into teaching practice.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Montessori Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Montessori teaching credential (AMI or AMS) for the appropriate age group (Primary).
  • Previous experience working as a Montessori Primary Teacher preferred.
  • Strong understanding of child development principles and the Montessori philosophy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a genuine love for working with young children.

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule:

  • Full-time 8am-3pm
  • Monday to Friday

Work Location: In person.

  • Work primarily occurs in a classroom setting, with occasional outdoor activities and field trips.

Physical Requirements and Other Requirements:

  • The primary teacher may be required to stand, walk, bend, and lift objects up to a certain weight.
  • The position may involve working with children with diverse learning needs and abilities.
