McClatchy is Hiring a Content Specialist Near Miami, FL

This position will lead the creation, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of content surrounding McClatchy's demand vertical initiatives. As Content Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the voice and quality of our content across various platforms. You will be responsible for creating, editing, and refining written materials, ensuring they meet the highest standards of accuracy, clarity, and adherence to our brand guidelines.
The anticipated base pay range for this position is between 80k and 90k annually. Individual base pay may vary within that range depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, relevant education, department equity, training, geography, and local wage and hours laws.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Content Development:
    • Use your expertise to design & execute written content that drives audience growth & engagement.
  • Editing and Proofreading:
    • Reviewing and editing content for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style.
    • Ensuring consistency in tone, style, and messaging across various pieces of content.
  • Content Quality Assurance:
    • Verifying accuracy and fact-checking information in articles, blog posts, or other content.
    • Ensuring content adheres to established guidelines and standards.
  • Collaboration with Writers:
    • Collaborating with writers to improve the overall quality of content.
    • Providing constructive feedback to help writers enhance their work.
  • Content Strategy:
    • Contributing to the development and implementation of content strategies.
    • Ensuring content aligns with the overall goals and objectives of the organization.
  • SEO Optimization:
    • Optimizing content for search engines by incorporating relevant keywords and best practices.
  • Content Management:
    • Managing and organizing content within content management systems (CMS).
    • Ensuring proper tagging, categorization, and metadata for each piece of content.
  • Style Guide Adherence:
    • Enforcing adherence to the organization's style guide and brand guidelines.
  • Publication Coordination:
    • Coordinating the publication schedule for various types of content.
    • Ensuring timely delivery of content and meeting deadlines.
  • Content Enhancement:
    • Identifying opportunities to enhance content, improve clarity, and engage the target audience.
  • Research:
    • Conducting research to gather information and data for content creation.
    • Staying informed about industry trends and best practices.
  • Communication:
    • Collaborating with other departments, such as marketing or communications, to align content with overall strategies.
  • Performance Analysis:
    • Monitoring and analyzing the performance of published content.
    • Using analytics to assess the impact and effectiveness of content.
  • Training and Development:
    • Providing guidance and training to writers on content guidelines and best practices.
  • Adaptation to Trends:
    • Staying up-to-date with content marketing trends and adjusting strategies accordingly.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Writing Skills:
    • Strong writing and editing skills with an emphasis on grammar, punctuation, and style.
    • Ability to create engaging and error-free content.
  • Editing Skills:
    • Proficient in copy editing and proofreading.
    • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy and consistency in content.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience in content editing or a related field.
    • Familiarity with various content management systems (CMS) may be beneficial.
  • Industry Knowledge:
    • Understanding of the industry or niche in which the company operates.
    • Knowledge of SEO best practices and how they apply to content.
  • Adaptability:
    • Ability to adapt to different writing styles and tones based on the target audience and platform.
  • Communication Skills:
    • Effective communication skills to collaborate with writers, content creators, and other team members.
  • Project Management:
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
    • Organizational skills to keep track of various pieces of content.
  • Creativity:
    • Creative thinking to suggest improvements and enhancements to content.
    • Ability to contribute ideas for content development.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred,or the equivalent education, experience, skills and knowledge needed to do the job.
  • 4 years of related content strategy, experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven ability to manage a large workload focused on day-to-day deliverables, prioritization, task management, and working across various teams and individuals in a fast-paced revenue environment.
