Position Summary

McCormick Taylor is seeking an Environmental Technician to join our Energy/Utilities group. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative team environment. We are seeking an individual who can handle multiple projects, meet deadlines and work well in an independent field position. Strong written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills, attention to detail and ability to organize is required. This position consists of 70 - 80% field work, with local travel to and from job sites, with some office support. This position will require work both independently and with other team members and may require periodic overtime and periodic non-local travel. This position requires independence, self-motivation, attention to detail, organizational skills, willingness to take initiative and ability to work in the field during all weather conditions. This position is a great opportunity to get involved in the environmental consulting industry. This position will consist primarily of field work in the Mid-Atlantic Region on Energy projects but may also include field work in a wider geography on occasion. Knowledge of Soil Erosion & Sediment Control Plan interpretation, and documentation of compliance with construction permit plans is preferred. Experience with wetland field work, delineations, or other natural resource assessments beneficial. Experience working on complex constructions projects is not required but preferred. The position will include conducting environmental inspections on active construction projects. Strict adherence to prescribed safety protocols on active construction sites is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental compliance inspections
  • Prepare compliance documentation
  • Support natural and cultural resource field surveys
  • Communicate daily with project teams (internal, contractor, owner, etc.), verbally and in writing.
  • Strict adherence to personal protective equipment and safety protocol requirements.
  • Conduct multi-media sampling (primarily soil and water)

  • High School diploma or GED is required, Associates or Bachelor's degree in science or engineering preferred.
  • No prior experience required; however, candidates with 3 years of experience are preferred. Technical and field experience preferred in environmental compliance, construction oversight, or similar.
  • General knowledge of Erosion and Sediment Control Practices.
  • Basic understanding of environmental regulations.
  • Demonstrates a strong willingness to learn about their respective discipline.
  • Functional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to suit various audiences.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Strong ability to work in a team environment.
  • Willingness and ability to work extended hours in the field, in all seasons, with occasional weekend work.
  • Must be able to physically navigate in the field.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation capable of maneuvering construction sites.
