MD Anderson Cancer Center is Hiring a Program Coordinator, Quality & Patient Safety (DoCM) Near Houston, TX

The primary role of the Program Coordinator, Quality & Patient Safety (DoCM) position is to provide program support through coordination of activities related to organizational, divisional, and departmental QI and Patient Safety initiatives and priority focus areas. Duties include program and project data oversight, analysis support, and coordination of projects aligned with Divisional and/or Institutional objectives across DoCM clinical departments while serving as a knowledge resource for established Quality and Safety metrics and ad-hoc data collection.
Key FunctionsProgram Coordination (40%):
  • Supporting Division of Cancer Medicine (DoCM) Quality and Patient Safety program activities at the departmental, divisional and institutional levels.
  • Coordination of Quality and Patient Safety projects aligned with priority focus areas across multiple clinical departments and the Division; regular communication of project goals, deliverables, and completion time to key stakeholders and Division leadership.
  • Collaborate with Division leadership, Division and Department Patient Safety and Quality Officers and others as directed, to identify, monitor, and report on identified project/program metrics within specified time frames.
  • Develop and demonstrate an understanding of Vizient metrics, risk methodologies and data reporting to competently serve as a Division resource for all Vizient matters.
  • Use knowledge of medical terminology, coding, and medical services in project planning, data collection, and analysis workflows.
  • Plan and organize project meetings, as necessary.
Data Management and Project Support (40%):
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and record key project metrics while establishing repeatable processes that promote data accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of best practices for the measurement and analysis of QI project data.
  • Demonstrate understanding and the effective use of evidence-based management principles and problem-solving skills while providing project support.
  • Recognize areas of opportunity for training or other forms of support while interacting with team members.
  • Lead or assist in the preparation, distribution, and/or presentation of project/program data reporting.
Leadership (20%):
  • Serve as a liaison between the Division leadership and Patient Safety and Quality Officers.
  • Support the development, implementation, and management of divisional and departmental safety and quality initiatives, in alignment with institutional safety and quality initiatives such as the MD Anderson Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement Program (QAPI), Priority Focus Areas (PFA), continuous accreditation readiness, High-Reliability Organizing MD Anderson Team-Up for Safety.
  • Assist in prioritization of projects to ensure the best possible delivery of service and highest stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Identify opportunities and take action to build strategic relationships with internal quality/safety administrators and teams.
  • Develop and demonstrate a thorough understanding and grasp of the complex range of patient care and service provided by division faculty and programs, including the specific risks associated with treatments in each department and service line, including but not limited to stem cell transplant, solid and liquid malignancies, opioid and chemotherapy safety, blood products, and inpatient/outpatient environments.
Other Duties
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining productivity and performance standards.
EDUCATION Required: Bachelor's degree Business Administration or related field.
Preferred: Master's degree Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field.
ExperienceRequired: Three years project/program coordination experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis. With preferred degree, one year of required experience.
Preferred: Experience with EPIC and Vizient.
CERTIFICATION Required: None.
Preferred: Quality and/or Safety certification from a nationally recognized body (i.e., ASQ, NAHQ, IHI).
