The MD Anderson Cancer Center TRIUMPH (Translational Research in Multi-Disciplinary Program) Postdoctoral Fellowship provides one of a kind training in clinical and translational research. The immediate goal of this program is to recruit highly talented and productive Ph.D. students from top graduate programs to provide continued training in clinical and/or translational cancer research through didactic course work, clinical rotations, and unique, interdisciplinary mentorships.

The CPRIT TRIUMPH Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at MD Anderson Cancer Center is a highly competitive three year long training program open to both early stage and established postdoctoral fellows. Our program provides the only training of its kind in clinical and translational cancer research. Defining features of the program include didactic coursework to be taken at our graduate school, clinical rotations, and access to a multi-disciplinary mentoring team. Selected fellows will have the opportunity to work in state-of the-art research facilities alongside highly accomplished mentoring faculty including a Nobel laureate, 5 National Academy members, 15 American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellows, and an AACR Awardee for Outstanding Achievement in Basic Cancer Research. With the use of an individualized development plan, trainees will experience a fellowship that is truly tailored to them helping to position them for success throughout the program and beyond.

This 3 year fellowship trains postdocs in the art of translational research. Fellows will spend the first 4-6 weeks focused on mentor identification and selection. Once this is complete, they will transition to their mentor's lab to begin on a research project they have designed. Concurrently, our team will work with the fellow to identify short and long term goals to position them for success while in the program and beyond. Fellows will form and committee that the will meet with and present their research project to twice a year. All fellows are required to take between 12-15 (cumulative) non-degree seeking credit hours in the 18 months of the program to fill in any voids in their previous training. Throughout the program about 85% of the fellows time will be devoted to their research project. In year three, fellows will be able to participate in clinical rotations so they can see how the work they are doing at the bench can be translated to the clinical setting.

Program Eligibility:

Early Stage Post-Doctoral Fellows:

1. Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. from a top graduate program (U.S. or abroad) in any of the life or natural sciences within the last three years

2. Dedication to pursue translational cancer research

3. Junior post-doctoral fellows (less than one and a half years of experience) and graduate students within one year of their anticipated defense date are encouraged to apply

4. Publications in top tier journals (must have at least one accepted or published first or co-first author paper in a journal with an impact factor8 at the time of application)

5. United States citizenship or permanent residency is not required. All foreign fellows must have an active visa for the duration of the fellowship

Established Post-Doctoral Fellows:

1. Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. from a top graduate program (U.S. or abroad) in any of the life or natural sciences within the last three years.

2. Dedication to pursue translational cancer research

3. Must have no more than 3 years of post-doctoral experience by the time one starts our program if accepted

4. Has two or more first or co-first author papers in journals with an impact factor of 8. At least one publication should stem from previous post-doctoral work

5. United States citizenship or permanent residency is not required. All foreign fellows must have an active visa for the duration of the fellowship
