Compensation: Salary $2,000 per week plus room and board: Private room with AC, all meals provided, housekeeping and laundry service
Overview
ASAP Meadowmount School of Music seeks to hire a full-time seasonal Head Nurse/Health Director for our summer program. This person will be responsible for overseeing the health program on campus including a three bed infirmary, ensuring the health and safety of all campers and staff throughout the summer. This position reports to the Camp Director.
Applicants should be a RN or LPN currently licensed in New York State with First Aid/CPR/AED certification. Meadowmount will cover the cost of a NY State Nursing License for those already qualified in other states, for accepted applicants who apply before March 15. This person must be comfortable working within New York State requirements for a summer camp health professional, and have experience working with patients 13-30 years old. They should work well under pressure and have the ability to interact with staff, parents, and students. Candidates must be personable, flexible, hard workers, team players, and have a strong desire to create a positive, safe, and healthy environment for students and staff alike.
Responsibilities
Supervise health and sanitation on campus for campers and staff
Maintain confidential medical records for campers
Maintain camp's daily medical log
Oversee initial health screening of campers and daily health surveillance of camp occupants
Handle health emergencies and injuries, including emergency preparedness and provisions for professional health care
Report required incidents to local health department within 24 hours
Store, prepare, and dispense medications – prescriptions and over-the-counter
Perform daily sick call
Communicate specific camper health needs (allergies, special diets, etc.) to staff
Communicate with counselors, staff, faculty, and parents as needed
Cooperate with local doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies
Accompany sick/injured campers or staff to the hospital or to medical appointments
Have a plan in place for any communicable disease outbreaks
Maintain infirmary and equipment
Attend staff meetings as requested
Qualifications and Requirements
Current New York State licensed RN (preferred) or LPN, or the ability to be licensed
Must be available for live-in 24 hour shifts
Self-directed
Good bedside manner with a friendly and personable demeanor
Strong assessment abilities
Prior experience with 13 to 30 year olds
Certified CPR for Professional Rescuer and Responding to Emergencies (RTE)
Ability to move quickly, on foot if needed, around the campus to provide emergency first aid and medical evaluation
Wilderness First Aid certification a plus
Prior experience working at a summer camp as a health professional a plus
