Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Nursing assists the DON in providing direction and guidance to the nursing staff to ensure delivery of best possible nursing services within our Meadows Ranch program. Designated Infection Control/Employee Health Nurse.

Primary Responsibilities

• Promotes patient safety through awareness of the environment of care and in all actions that involve patient care. Communicates patient safety issues quickly, clearly, and effectively with other staff members.
• Assists the Director of Nursing in establishing and maintaining the highest standards of nursing care and practice utilizing the Company’s policies and procedures, nursing standard of care, State regulations and Joint Commission regulations.
• Performs quality control checks on charts and participates in performance improvement activities.
• Assists in developing, implementing, and evaluating a program to promote the recruitment, retention, development, continuing education and advancement goals of nursing staff members. Utilizes supervisory skills to assess skill levels of staff and provides feedback, provides input to complete staff evaluations
• Performs the duties of the Infection Control / Employee Health Nurse, including infection control surveillance, analysis, and interpretation of data. Educates staff and patients about HIV and other communicable diseases as needed. Serves as a member of committees as assigned.
• Assists the DON in ensuring clinical oversight is completed for staff per State regulations
• Assesses staffing plans to ensure the delivery of efficient and effective patient care.
• Participates in evaluating and integrating health care technology and information management systems that support patient care needs and the efficient utilization of nursing resources.
• Provides call coverage in absence of the Director of Nursing.

Education, Skills and Experience Requirements:

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required. Bachelors Degree preferred
• State Registered Nurse License in good standing.
• One year of psychiatric nursing experience required.
• Ability to converse in English with others to give, take and process information; extensive use of telephone. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information, multi-task, coordinate projects and record/transcribe general and specific meeting minutes. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Communicate with other staff to relay concerns and observations involving patient safety.
• Occasional/limited exposure to: Infection and to the risk of blood borne diseases; hazardous agents, body fluids and wastes; unpleasant patient or departmental elements; to potentially violent/aggressive patients/staff/visitors, critical incidents, and/or sentinel events. Occasionally needed to work irregular hours or additional hours.
• Ability to make good decisions within assigned scope of authority.
• Ability to effectively supervise staff.

• Ability to support and effectively collaborate with other departments to achieve results.
• Ability to plan ahead, and to prioritize and coordinate activities, services, schedules or programs
• Ability to plan, assess, communicate, and develop employee performance.

Physical Working Conditions & Requirements

• 30% time sitting (computer and telephone use, attending meetings)
• 70% time standing (greeting visitors, copying, faxing, filing)
• 65% time walking (touring company grounds, distribution)
• Up to 70% time bending (access files/reports/supplies)
• Up to 50 pounds weight lifted/carried
• Occasionally needed to work irregular hours or additional hours.
