POSITION DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Human Resources Generalist
Reports To: Tribal Administrator
Supervises: None
Classification: Salaried, full-time, benefit-eligible
Anticipated Starting Salary: $57,000 – $65,000

Position Summary
The Human Resource Generalist will play a critical role in supporting the daily functions of the Human Resources (HR) department, including hiring, interviewing and onboarding staff, administering benefits, leave and training, and enforcing company policies and practices. The HR Generalist will ensure that all HR activities are conducted smoothly and effectively to deliver maximum value to the organization as a whole.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Manage the recruitment process including job postings, screening, interviewing, and hiring.
- Conduct new employee orientations and ensure smooth onboarding process.
- Maintain recruitment metrics and analyze hiring data.
- Conduct exit interviews and review departing employee’s rights and obligations.
- Create and update job descriptions to reflect accurate duties of positions.
- Serve as a point of contact for employees regarding HR-related queries and issues.
- Handle employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievances.
- Recommend and develop employee relations practices to foster positive employer-employee relations
- Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations and applicable employment laws, and update policies and procedures when necessary.
- Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other benefits.
- Investigates accidents and prepares reports for Worker’s Comp insurance carrier.
- Conduct market research to ensure competitive compensation packages.
- Assist in the implementation and management of performance appraisal processes.
- Support managers in setting performance objectives and conducting performance reviews.
- Develop and implement employee development and training programs.
- Maintain and update HR policies and procedures as necessary.
- Maintain employee directory and organization chart.
- Conduct regular audits of HR practices and records to ensure compliance.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records and HR databases.
- Prepare HR reports and metrics for management.
- Participate in HR projects and initiatives aimed at improving HR processes.
- Complete bi-annual satisfaction surveys and salary surveys alternately to gauge employee satisfaction and ensure competitive compensation
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree program in Human Resources, Business Administration, or any related field along with two years of related HR experience or 3-5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of Tribal Human Resources practices, labor laws, and employment regulations.
- Ability to think critically, analyze problems and identify solutions.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Provides solution-based feedback to TAO/Personnel Committee on items requiring escalation or areas identified as needing improvement.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ethics and cultural awareness.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Proficiency in all related computer applications, including but not limited to MS Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- SHRM-CP, THRP certification.
- Experience in Tribal Human Resources.
- Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS) and payroll software.
Other Requirements
- Must be eligible for coverage under the Tribe’s vehicle insurance policy. Must possess a valid California driver’s license, provide a current DMV printout, and be willing to travel locally, regionally, statewide and/or out-of-state, as necessary, during or after regular working hours.
- This work involves long periods of sitting and may include walking, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities, and lifting of moderately heavy items, up to 20 lbs.
