Summary: Under the supervision of the Network/Telecommunication Manager, plan, design, configure, and administer the District’s technology infrastructure, communication network, data center operations and major business application systems. Serve as network and systems administrator to ensure the current systems are leveraged to provide maximum efficiency; implement, maintain, repair, install and provide overall technical support to major sections of the system infrastructure including network, telecom, server and application systems.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Designs computer networks (e.g. Internet, intranet, web mail, FTP servers, etc.) to ensure effective and efficient operating systems.
  • Installs network (client and server) software on a variety of platforms (e.g. service packs, application software, operating software, hardware upgrades, etc.) for the purpose of upgrading and maintaining district WAN/LAN and telecommunication systems.
  • Maintains network operations and software applications (e.g. servers (file, print, application, WEB, database, proxy, etc.), operating systems, district wide server backup, routine maintenance programs, etc.) to ensure efficient operations.
  • Troubleshoot and support problems across all pieces of IT infrastructure by responding to outages, user problems and escalated support incidents or service requests related to district network systems infrastructure, in person, remotely and over the phone, to assure user needs are met and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Manages assigned projects and program components (e.g. migration to new systems; scheduling installations, product research, etc.) to deliver services in compliance with established guidelines and/or objectives.
  • Prepares written materials (e.g. procedures, system level documentation, reports, memos, letters, etc.) to document activities, resolution plans, and/or convey information.
  • Diagram infrastructure services including hardware appliances, network topologies, schematics and configurations of physical servers and virtual servers; participate in capacity planning.
  • Research, evaluate and recommend IT system development, software and hardware upgrades and coordinate implementation and testing of upgrades; keep abreast of development to existing infrastructure hardware and software systems, emerging technologies, and identify industry trends in network system technologies and strategies.
  • Maintains confidentiality relative to employee, student, and parent records and procedures according to legal and system guidelines, following all applicable board policies, state, federal and local laws.
  • Trains other school system staff (primarily within the technology area) to use new and/or existing operating systems and application software.
  • Maintains competency in all position responsibilities.
  • Complies with all safety and work rules, policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for proper utilization, operation and maintenance of all department resources.
  • Provides support to other positions as needed.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as appropriate with little or no supervision.
  • Attends work regularly and punctually.
  • Other related duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) Industry certification (preferred) and commensurate previous network/system administrator experience; or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to interact appropriately with teachers, staff, members of the community and students. Focuses on solving conflict; maintains confidentiality; Contributes to building a positive team spirit.
Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing. Preference may be given to applicants who are fluent in both English and Spanish. Ability to effectively present information and respond verbally and in writing to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, regulatory agencies, administrators, or staff. Ability to read, analyze, or interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, technical sketches, drawings, specifications, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.), in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have in depth knowledge of computer operation. Network infrastructure, hardware and software including routers, switches, firewalls and wireless devices. Network, data and routing protocols; cabling topologies and their implementation. Network security concepts and systems; digital and data security methods, encryption, protocols and best practices. Physical and virtual server administration, architecture and related management tools. Server and desktop administration and virtualization.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Certificates as determined by the District including valid Oregon driver's license. Experience working in a public K-12 school district or public agency serving and supporting a richly diverse community is highly desirable.

The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Occasionally the employee is required to work in high, precarious places and around moving parts. Employee may be subject to temperature fluctuations, fumes, odors and dust. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
