Job Description
Pittsburg State University invites applications for the position of Special Collections Library Specialist located in the department of Library Services. The primary function is to assist with the acquisition, bibliographic control, physical processing, and management of new and old print materials for Library Services.
Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative Support-55%

• Works cooperatively with faculty, staff, students, and community patrons to meet their research needs
• Monitors daily office and reading room operations and ensures proper procedures
• Maintains existing resource organization systems and files new materials as necessary
• Greets in-person visitors to Special Collections reading room and provides reference or other patron assistance as needed
• Answers telephone and responds to voicemail
• Monitors Special Collections emails and Microsoft Teams accounts and responds to research requests
• Completes interlibrary loan requests for Special Collections materials
• Assists with intake and transfer of new collections
• Shelves Special Collections items as necessary

Events and Projects-25%

• Participates in processing and arrangement of collections
• Provides planning, technical support and processing for digital collections
• Coordinates and supports preparation for special events. Tasks include preparing event spaces, communicating with speakers and attendees, and arranging food and refreshments for events.

Supervise Student Employees-15%

• Assists with training and supervising student employees
• Provides guidance and administers payroll for Special Collections student employees

Other Duties-5%

• Other duties as assigned by Curator of Special Collections

Education and Experience

Required Education and Experience at Hire -

• High School diploma or equivalent education
• Two years of paraprofessional library experience. Education may be substituted for experience as determined by the university.

Preferred Education and Experience -

• Bachelor's degree

Screening Services (Background Checks): Employment with Pittsburg State University is contingent on a satisfactory criminal background check.

Job Type: Unclassified

Salary: $16.11 per hour, placement hourly rate may be considered depending on directly related experience.

Appointment Duration: 12 months

Work Schedule: Full Time - Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
