This position will begin with the 2024-25 school year.

JOB DESCRIPTIONThe secretary in this position will maintain the library media center, perform general clerical duties, assist students and teachers, and perform other duties as assigned, under the direction of the library media specialist and building principal.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Passing basic skills test based on the requirements of the position.Employment history in similar position(s).References indicating satisfactory skills and abilities in similar position.

Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Two years successful experience in technical, library media center or clerical experience.Recommendations that confirm dependability, flexibility, loyalty and self-starting capabilities.

Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.

Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.

Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.

Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.

Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.

Evidence of ability to learn new software programs; "Business " software knowledge preferred.Previous experience and / or training operating general office equipment such as : computer, copy machine, 10 key adding machine, and fax machine.

Knowledge of computer programs such as Word, Excel, etc. Ability to function within various software programs.Strong verbal and written communication skills;

working knowledge of correct grammar, spelling and English usage.Possess current first aid card or willingness to acquire one.

Must be willing to participate in district training as it becomes available for varied computer programs and other needs.QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

AA degree or equivalent or comparable work experience in a secretarial / clerical office setting.Successful library secretarial experience.

Knowledge of the Follett Destiny System software.Knowledge of desktop publishing.Bilingual (English / Spanish) skills.Experience working with school district procedures, such as student registration, orientation and assisting with student bussing needs.

Ability to work with interruptions while balancing daily office responsibilities.Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.

Excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides a friendly, caring, inviting and safe atmosphere in the library for staff, students, parents and visitors.Assists students, staff and patrons in locating and using library materials.

Processes mail, types letters, produces spreadsheets, compiles data and prepares reports for the library media center.Processes requisitions.

Maintains electronic inventory for all area of print and non-print collection.Maintain school-wide inventory and management of surplus materials.

Maintains automated circulations system and library media services that include managing circulation desk, preparation of overdue notices / letters / updating, providing circulation statistics and reports, immediate supervision of student assistants and volunteers.

Under the supervision of the Library Specialist the employee will : schedule classes and other patron use and retrieve information from electronic resources.

Assist in supervision and control of students as needed, in order to promote a safe, orderly, positive learning environment.

Maintains physical appearance of library media center by shelving all collections.Maintains attractive, up-to-date relevant displays and bulletins.

Processes and maintains library materials and equipment.Learns new systems or programs as they become available and upgrades professional skills as opportunities are presented.

Effectively uses basic library technologies.Role models appropriate adult behavior.Performs all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.

Supports inventory, check-out and coordination of Chromebooks.Performs other job-related tasks as assigned by principal.
