Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to join our outpatient surgery center team. The CNA will play a critical role in supporting the nursing staff and providing high-quality care to our patients. This position involves assisting with preoperative and postoperative patient care, ensuring patient comfort, and maintaining a clean and organized environment in the surgery center. Provides direct and indirect patient care functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide comfort measures and ensure patient safety before and after surgical procedures.
• Assist with patient positioning, transfers, and mobility as needed.
• Prepare patients for surgery by helping them change into surgical gowns and ensuring they are properly positioned.
• Assist nurses and surgical staff with patient care tasks, including taking vital signs, monitoring patients, performing glucometer checks, starting and discontinuing IV, and preparing medical equipment.
• Monitor and report any changes in patient condition to the nursing staff.
• Assist with postoperative care, including helping patients in the recovery area—support nursing staff with assistance during the recovery process: taking vital signs, providing nutrition, discontinuing IV, calling family to recovery area, and transporting patient in wheelchair to vehicle.
• Set up and clean patient care areas, ensuring that supplies and equipment are readily available, cleaning stretchers as needed.
• Assist RNs with restocking in Pre, Post, and PACU bays.
• Follow infection control procedures to maintain a sterile and safe environment.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure that patient needs are met and report concerns and changes to RN promptly.
• Accurately document patient care activities and observations in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Other duties as assigned to care for patients and to support the team.

Qualifications:

• Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Must have strong knowledge of medical terminology, supplies and equipment.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions and protocols.
• Ability to handle physically demanding tasks, including lifting and moving patients.

Education and Experience:

Required:

• Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in Virginia, or EMT certification, or 1 semester of nursing school (and enrolled in nursing school) required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred:

• Phlebotomy and venipuncture experience preferred
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a CNA, preferably in a surgical or outpatient care setting preferred.
• Ambulatory service experience a plus
