MedStar Health is looking for aSenior Radiation Therapist Technologist to join ourteam at MedStar Franklin Square Hospital!

As a Senior Radiation Therapist Technologist, you will administer radiation therapy treatments, perform simulation procedures, and assist in the planning of radiation therapy treatments, document all aspects of patient's treatment in medical records. Support the chief therapist and technical director in implementing new policies and procedures and attaining goals. Assists in the daily operation of the Radiation Therapy Center. 

Position requires routine assignment ("float") among multiple practice sites/locations in an assigned geographic region.

Primary Duties:

  • Provides coverage at other offices and participates in the On-call schedule. Records all aspects of simulation, treatment delivery, and billing. Consistently utilizes the QA Checklist function. Runs the Contingency Report. Responsible for the daily operations in the therapy department. Keeps treatment/CT simulator rooms and console areas clean, organized and stocked. Notifies chief therapist of supplies needed. Reports all treatment unit/simulator malfunctions and documents in the problem log (RadTrak).

  • Attends Technical Staff Meetings, In-Service and educational seminars sponsored by the organization, staff meetings, annual staff meetings, chart rounds and peer reviews. Able to access, update and review performance goals and evaluations. Send evaluations to the immediate supervisor. Participate in all QA procedures. Performs dose verification and document. Verifies and records all SSD’s weekly. Acquires all necessary patient imaging as directed by the physician. Assists chief therapist ensuring charts are accurate and complete. 

  • Schedules simulation and treatment procedures to ensure the office runs efficiently and patients are treated promptly. Provides patients with initial appointment and treatment calendar. Resolves schedule conflicts. Evaluates missed appointments with patients/family and documents in the EMR. Operates the CT simulator, and necessary equipment as prescribed by the physician. Able to perform morning quality assurance procedures, emergency shutdown procedures, and follows guidelines for the CT Scanner. Performs HDR, and Mold Room duties. Performs and maintains credentialing for urethrograms, oral and IV Contrast. Performs Time- Out procedure and provides patient with what to expect during the simulation procedure. Fabricates immobilization devices. Verifies all necessary consent forms are signed prior to any procedure being performed.

  • Appropriately evaluates the patient’s condition to inform the physician if their attention is required. Documents all symptoms or problems. Performs document scanning. Communicates effectively with the Chief Therapist, relaying concerns of staff therapists. Provides feedback and supports decisions made by the team. Assists and supports the Chief Therapist, Technical Director, and physicist in the implementation of new processes, procedures, treatment modalities etc. 

  • Assists in training of new staff, including students, and shadow students. Completes all necessary student/visitor forms and forwards them to the Chief Therapist. Completes all student clinical evaluations. Operates the linear accelerator(s). Performs morning quality assurance procedures, emergency shutdown procedures and follows guidelines of the operation manuals for treatment unit. Administers radiation therapy treatments. Provides on- going patient education by reinforcing the physician’s advice regarding skin care, diet, and treatment side effects, and reactions. Provides patient education on what to expect during the daily treatment. Performs hand calculations/RadCalc dose verifications. Maintains Credentialing.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Radiation Therapy Technology.

  • 3-4 years as a staff radiation therapist. 

  • 3 years progressive clinical experience.

  • Maryland Board of Physicians License with the letter prefix 'O' as a Radiation Therapist, or 'M' Licensed as a Radiation Therapist and Radiographer. 

  • ARRT Certification.

  • CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certification with AED. 

  • Maintain Continuing Educational Requirements (24 CE Credits/2 years).

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
