Job Summary:

At Meier Plastic Surgery and ENT Specialists of North Florida the Medical Scribe is responsible for increasing the efficiency and productivity of the physician in the physician's office setting. The scribe must be able to anticipate the physician’s needs, communicate clearly to patients and staff members, and effectively multi-task to facilitate physician office flow.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Assist physician throughout the physician's office, retrieving patient data, transcribing the impression and plan, entering test interpretations, entering new data, listening to and summarizing the conversations between patient and physician
• e-prescribe RX’s
• Order appropriate testing for patients, print out any patient education per the physician's requests, and prescriptions, mark encounters as instructed, perform patient education, and obtain informed consent for procedures
• Maintain a smooth flow of patients to the physician.
• Finish closing/signing doctor out of patient exams as needed per doctors’ instructions
• Seek advice from more senior staff as necessary, never perform beyond capabilities
• Escort patients from the clinical area to the check-out station
• Interact with all patients using the level of respect and professionalism required by this practice
• Comply with HIPAA confidentiality standards when accessing or communicating patient information
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor, manager, or physician

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Understanding of Medical Terminology
• 70 WPM
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task and function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
• Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type simple correspondence and communications
• Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to be an enthusiastic team player

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum one-two year(s) of experience as a medical scriber in a medical practice setting preferred
• Must be able to commit to a full year, great opportunity for medical students looking to take a gap year.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements (specifically keyboarding and writing), standing, walking, squatting, and sitting, with some lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 10 pounds.
• Travel to other offices as needed

Environmental/Working Conditions:

• Work is performed in an office environment. Involves contact with other staff members
• Work may be repetitious at times
