POSITION SUMMARY
MELE Associates, Inc. is seeking to add a dedicated Senior Security Specialist to our National Security and Intelligence team, supporting a key customer within the Department of Energy (DOE) Safeguards and Security program. The Senior Security Specialist will be responsible for providing detailed, written reports on safety and security audits, conducting research, and assisting with cyber-related activities. The Senior Security Specialist should have experience compiling information and statistics in support of evaluation processes and demonstrating the ability to evaluate a wide range of security requirements, plans, systems, and procedures sufficient to assess compliance with regulations and standards. This full-time position is a hybrid position with remote work and also time spent at the client location in Washington, D.C., and is available immediately to the selected candidate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Senior Security Specialist selected for this position will assist with the management and coordination of all compliance-related duties in accordance with all applicable environmental, health, safety, and security regulations for local, state, and federal agencies. The selected candidate must demonstrate knowledge of security systems, policies, hardware, philosophies, and concepts sufficient to evaluate a physical security chemical/biological program and protective forces. Essential duties may include:
  • Assist federal leadership with the deterrence, detection, and mitigation of insider threat actions by Federal and contractor employees in accordance with the requirements of all applicable Executive Orders and other government-wide and DOE requirements.
  • Support federal leadership with the identification of insider threat policy requirements and gaps.
  • Coordinate with DOE/NNSA Insider Threat Program (ITP) stakeholders to provide and receive security-related information.
  • Review, compile, and provide analysis of insider threat indicators for security relevance and appropriate response.
  • Assist federal leadership with the preparation for Executive Steering Committee (ESC), Insider Threat Program Working Group (ITPWG) and DOE ITP Analysis and Referral Center (ARC) engagements.
  • Assist federal leadership with the identification and recommendation of ITP security funding and technical resources requirements for the DOE enterprise.
  • Assist federal leadership with the creation of training and awareness campaigns to foster an insider threats culture of awareness for all cleared employees.
  • Conduct other insider threat program tasks as required.
  • All other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Active DOE 'Q' or DOD Top-Secret security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in such fields as one of the engineering disciplines, law enforcement, or security management.
  • Fifteen (15) years of experience within the field of nuclear safeguards and security and shall possess an excellent working knowledge of the protection of classified matter, computer systems, physical systems, information security, special nuclear material, protective forces, and the protection of property and assets.
  • Shall demonstrate proficiency in various types of information technology applications, such as Microsoft Office, including MS Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate the ability to compile information and statistics in support of evaluation processes.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to evaluate the application of a wide range of security requirements, plans, systems, and procedures sufficient to evaluate compliance with regulations and standards and the overall effectiveness of a program.
  • Provide knowledge of security systems, policies, hardware, philosophies, and concepts sufficient to evaluate a physical security chemical/biological program and protective forces.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of techniques to protect special nuclear materials, classified documents and information against diversion, theft, sabotage, and espionage.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Master's degree from an accredited University or college.
  • 20 years of relevant experience.
LOCATION:
  • This is a full-time hybrid position in Washington, DC 20585, USA
  • Telework options are available with a requirement to be in the office at least three days a week, based on the level of in-person meetings and office needs.
