Senior Accountant
Our Senior Accountant is responsible for providing support to the credit union co-workers as a knowledge expert in this area. This position is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger system, including complex accounting areas, and assisting with regulatory external reporting requirements. This position is responsible for timely and accurate preparation and distribution of certain monthly financial information, including financial statements and analysis. Finally, this position is responsible for providing timely and relevant data analysis to support credit union decision making and monitoring of operating activities.
Responsibilities
Our Senior Accountant is responsible for providing support to the credit union co-workers as a knowledge expert in this area. This position is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger system, including complex accounting areas, and assisting with regulatory external reporting requirements. This position is responsible for timely and accurate preparation and distribution of certain monthly financial information, including financial statements and analysis. Finally, this position is responsible for providing timely and relevant data analysis to support credit union decision making and monitoring of operating activities.
Responsibilities
- Provides assistance to so-workers by sharing knowledge and resources.
- Assist with end of day balancing problems.
- Maintains accuracy and integrity of general ledger system, including mapping from core system to general ledger, daily balancing, chart of accounts, and balancing reports.
- Reconciles assigned general ledger accounts. Research all reconciling items and adjust such items as considered necessary.
- Assists in the processing of month-end.
- Calculates and records various income and expense transactions to properly account for assigned transaction types.
- Communicates with managers during month-end to ensure accurate and timely month-end results.
- Performs calculations for the monthly allowance reserve calculation and periodically monitors deferred loan costs calculation.
- Ensure timely and accurate calculations of significant accounting estimates.
- Prepares and distributes in timely fashion financial and operational reports and the preparation of all regulatory reporting.
- Assists with the completion and filing of quarterly 5300 reports to NCUA, annual tax filings, monthly board of directors’ reports, and other committee reports.
- Creates ad hoc reporting and analysis to support the business intelligence needs of the organization.
- Prepares reports for external exams and audits.
- Maintain the integrity of our monthly financial statements.
- Provides information to assist department managers in the decision-making process.
- Prepares a variety of weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports, but not limited to financial statements, Board reports, ALCO reports, etc.
- Assists on other analytical projects as requested by department manager or supervisor.
- Four-year bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Five years of accounting experience.
- Financial institution experience is desirable but not required.
- CPA designation is desirable but not required.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and their practical application to the credit union industry.
- Knowledge and familiarity with industry, state,
- Federal and legal regulations pertaining to the financial industry in order to assist with maintaining compliance
