Memphis-Shelby County Schools is Hiring a Campus Monitor Near MEMPHIS, TN

Purpose and Scope

Monitors areas of school buildings and grounds such as hallways, bathrooms, parking lots, etc. Prevents behaviors that are disruptive to a positive learning environment, and act as an additional adult deterrent to fighting, bullying and other student conduct violations such as students leaving campus without permission and the use of tobacco or other illegal substances on school property.

Essential Job Functions

  • Observes and report behaviors of students that would be concern for the wellbeing of the school.
  • Monitors student passes in the hall areas.
  • Assists in monitoring student behavior on school property.
  • Monitors suspicious activity and make referrals to appropriate school authorities.
  • Checks passes of students leaving school property during the school day.
  • Prevents loitering in the halls or on school property.
  • Informs the appropriate school administration when emergencies develop or questions arise.
  • Provides support to lunchroom aides when necessary.
  • Performs other reasonable related duties as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Requires a High School diploma or GED, and one (1) year of experience in a relevant area for a total education/experience of 1 year.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Requires the ability to confront and deescalate situations effectively
    • Knowledge of good human relations and communications skills
    • Knowledge of the philosophy of today’s middle school and high school students
    • Knowledge of discipline and the benefits of good discipline; knowledge of policies and procedures of the school building.
    • Ability to relate effectively with students and staff
    • Ability to understand, communicate and accept middle and high student
    • Follows policies and procedures; completes administrative tasks correctly and on time

    Physical Requirements and Working Environment

    Physical Demands: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment.

    Unavoidable Hazards: The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards.

    Sensory (Ada) Requirements: The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities.
