Our distinctive treatment and work environments are defined by hope, quality, integrity, respect, teamwork, and accountability.Job PurposeReporting to the Treatment Director, the Counselor Supervisor oversees the work of Counselors and Interns, ensuring the delivery of high-quality clinical services within the treatment program. This role includes monitoring and maintaining program development, as well as fostering individual staff development and training. Responsibilities also involve direct care, including assessments, group sessions, education, and case management. In some locations, this position may be split equally between Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) duties and supervisory responsibilities.
Duties And ResponsibilitiesThe duties listed below are typical for this role but are not exhaustive. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed.
  • Supervise counseling staff and assist with case management of clients.
  • Screen and interview clients to determine their suitability for the program.
  • Demonstrate expertise in areas specified under alcohol and drug counselor qualifications.
  • Provide ongoing education and training to all staff members.
  • Review and approve progress notes, reviews, treatment plans, transfers, and service termination documents for ADC Trainees and interns.
  • Lead weekly supervision meetings.
  • Attend monthly manager meetings and stay current on all licensure requirements.
  • Participate in all mandatory staff meetings and daily reports.
Qualifications Required To Perform Essential Job Functions
  • Current Minnesota State Licensure as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience providing individual and group counseling to individuals with substance use disorder.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all rules, regulations, and requirements of the assigned program.
  • Minimum of two years of freedom from chemical abuse problems.
  • Documented 12 hours of training in co-occurring mental health problems and chemical dependency, covering competencies related to philosophy, screening, assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, documentation, programming, medication, collaboration, mental health consultation, and discharge planning.
  • Ongoing training in cultural awareness and sensitivity to various cultural norms and values.
  • CPR and first aid certification.
  • Computer literacy.

  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to simplify abstract concepts.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in drafting emails, memos, and reports.

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
Physical Requirements
  • Extended periods of sitting, approximately 80% of the time.
  • Occasional reaching for and lifting client charts, up to 5 lbs., approximately 10% of the time.
  • Heavy data entry on a computer, approximately 25% of the time.
  • Frequent handling of paperwork, binders, and writing.
