Job title: Production Superintendent

Location: Eaton Rapids, MI.

Purpose

To develop a proactive manufacturing environment to better serve our customers and benefit our stakeholders. The primary responsibility will be to work with all the management team to achieve the company goals while committed to the philosophy that recognizes the worth of every employee and the value of every customer. This position reports to Production Manager.

Responsibilities

Safety and Housekeeping: 6S housekeeping audits. Develop standards and maintain. Correct all safety audit items in a timely manner. Ensure all equipment maintained to standard. Review all accidents and implement corrective actions.

Quality performance: Establish improvement process to error-proof all operations. Root-cause all items found in containment and eliminate. Goal is to have first time quality at production operation. Establish training plan for all employees (put on matrix).

Uptime improvements: Establish plans through the improvement teams and monitor. Ensure plan is tracked to a timeline and met.

Customer schedules: Establish with materials windows to meet all shipping requirements

Develop competencies of specialized skills in Practice:

  • Scrap and material utilization-Establish base line for all operations.
  • Use continuous improvement teams to establish actions. Monitor improvement process.

People Management

  • Develop competency of specialized skills in the Practice
  • Implement coaching and mentoring framework within the Practice
  • Manage performance, aspirations and career planning of his team
  • Mentor new project hires and identified training needs.
  • Monitor performance of team members.
  • Prepare annual and bi-annual appraisals of each team member.

Skills/Experience/Education

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in fast-paced automotive manufacturing environment in a leadership capacity
  • Post-Secondary Education in Manufacturing, Engineering or Technical diploma
  • 6 Sigma Black Belt, formal leadership training an asset
  • Experience working with Continuous Improvement Teams - improving existing process, supporting new launches through CI activities
  • Highly developed knowledge and strong focus on all aspects of Health and Safety
  • Proven interpersonal, communication and customer relations skills
  • Demonstrate good communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Knowledge of die casting and machining operations an asset

Purpose

Reporting to the Production Superintendent, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that production requirements and customer needs are met. environment, health & safety issues, both the prevention of incidents and the resolution of incidents as they occur. Responsible for the training and general well-being of employees (both orientation and on the job).

Responsibilities

· Safety: Champion the Health, Safety and Environmental issues within the team including completing investigations regarding safety incidents and accidents. Consistently apply and enforce company rules and procedures, attend meetings, and prioritize team activities to meet or exceed team goals. Ensure that Weekly Safety Talks take place. Champion housekeeping and 6S – target 90% plant wide.

· Productivity: Manage the day to day operations; lead the team to make the best decisions possible, answer questions from other staff. Participate in launch and APQP activities. Ensure that all production numbers are met in accordance with customer requirements. Ensure that PM and Production Schedules are followed.

· Leadership and Supervision: Foster positive work environment, spending as much time on the production floor as required. Ensure that production personnel meet OEE targets. Prioritize team activities to meet or exceed goals. Conduct daily team meetings and assist in the development of the short and long-term action plans. Provide recognition to excellent performers. Address situations where performance improvement is needed. Conduct or participate in Corrective Action and discipline as required.

· Support TPM Activities in Area: Provide support for TMP activities as required. Encourage active participation and support in plants. Ensure that the proper documentation for all areas of production is completed. Mandatory training to be completed 100% monthly, as per annual schedule. Ensuring 100% quality parts are shipped to the customer, on time.

· Scheduling: Inputting daily attendance, including booking vacations, leave of absences, etc. and approving timecards. Managing die life in conjunction with Technical Team Members by establishing a system of rotation, preventative maintenance, etc. and scheduling the proper maintenance of dies.

· Communication: Conduct weekly team meetings and assist in the development of short- and long-term action plans, including providing adequate training for team members. Effectively communicating with all team members including email information.

· Customer Focus: Assisting in resolving conflicts, process problems and customer complaints.

· Evacuation Procedures: Receive all head counts from the Material Handlers and coordinate ERT activities. Maintain open contact with the ERT personnel and relay all necessary information to the Material Handlers and other personnel, as required.

· ERT: lead and encourage participation in the Emergency Response Team

· Other responsibilities as required, including special projects as they arise.

Skills/Experience/Education

· Minimum of 5 years’ experience in fast-paced automotive manufacturing environment

· Experience working with temporary employment agencies for the provision of temporary labour.

· Experience working with Continuous Improvement Teams - improving existing process, supporting new launches through CI activities

· Post-Secondary Education in Manufacturing or Engineering is a plus
