Merjent, Inc. (Merjent) is seeking a full-time IT Systems Engineer to assist with managing the company's major technology systems that support the day-to-day services provided by staff, including cloud and on-prem networking, servers, firewalls, security, communications, and connectivity. The IT Systems Engineer will work with other IT colleagues to implement the company's technological short-term and long-range goals.

This position requires working at Merjent's Minneapolis, Minnesota office. The anticipated annual salary range for this position is between $105,100 and $137,000, depending on qualifications and experience.

responsibilities

Responsibilities of the IT Systems Engineer may include the following and other related tasks:

• Manage network systems: circuits, switches, firewalls.
• Manage virtual systems that support GIS and engineering applications.
• Build and maintain servers and their backup systems.
• Plan major infrastructure changes.
• Troubleshoot issues to resolution.
• Document changes to systems and new procedures.
• Assist in IT projects and Helpdesk ticket escalations.
• Monitor systems security, acting on security notifications and alerts.
• Perform systems security related tasks: monitoring, reporting, patching.
• Participate in monthly Maintenance Weekend activities.
• Design and deploy on-prem and cloud-based servers.
• Build and manage multi-user virtual environments.
• Monitor, recognize, and recommend areas for infrastructure improvement.
• Additional focus on other solutions such as Microsoft Intune Endpoint management, PowerShell.

required qualifications and experience

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and professional experiences:

• Bachelor's degree in an IT field of study preferred, however, a bachelor's or associate degree in a related field is acceptable with appropriate IT systems experience.
• 10 years of experience working in IT with 5 years consistent experience working in a systems support role.
• Ability to troubleshoot technology issues in a situation with few peers available for support.
• Ability to demonstrate initiative (self-starter) with workload management.
• Ability to adapt quickly and work with short lead times, both in a team setting and individually.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience with on-prem and cloud-based backup technologies.
• Experience with Active Directory and Azure and Entra ID.
• Experience communicating with management and peers.
• Proficient with Microsoft business tools (Office, Teams, SharePoint).
• Knowledge of environmental consulting services preferred but not required.
• Ability to occasionally travel out of town.
