Position(s): Social Worker/Clinical Supervisor

Reports To: Chief Supports Officer

Compensation: Very competitive and commensurate with experience. A competitive benefits package and extensive professional development opportunities are also available.

Status: Full-Time (10 month employee)

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, (7:45-4:00 pm)

We are seeking a dedicated Social Worker and Clinical Supervisor to join our team, serving K-8 students. The Social Worker and Clinical Supervisor will play a vital role in providing clinical supervision to our mental health providers and supporting the social-emotional needs of our students.

The ideal candidate for this position is student-centered, passionate about young learners, and committed to their social and emotional development. They should be a problem solver, creative in their approach, and adept at building relationships to achieve goals. Additionally, they should be a coachable clinician, eager to grow professionally, and possess exceptional communication, organization, and critical thinking skills.

The successful candidate will lead a high-performing team of mental health providers, ensuring adherence to best practices and ethical standards. They will collaborate with stakeholders to create a positive and inclusive school environment and contribute to the overall success and well-being of our students.

Overview

Merrick Academy is one of the first charter schools to open in New York City and the first to open (2000) in Queens. With a rich history and deep roots in the local community, Merrick Academy is an all-inclusive learning community serving over 500 students and families. Merrick Academy provides students with innovative avenues to connect, learn, and discover their greatness. Through our rigorous STEM-based program, we work toward the common purpose of providing an excellent education for all students, ensuring our students are college and career-ready.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Supervision and Counseling:

  • Provide clinical supervision to the schools social workers and guidance counselors, ensuring adherence to best practices and ethical standards.
  • Maintain a caseload of middle school students, conducting individual and group counseling sessions.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices and assessment procedures to address the social, emotional, and academic needs of students.
  • Implement restorative discipline practices and crisis intervention strategies as needed.

School Wide Supports:

  • Support the guidance counselors with the middle and high school application process
  • Collaborate with the Student Support Team (SST) to implement school-wide behavioral systems and restorative discipline practices.
  • Develop support strategies aligned with the school's vision and equity agenda, catering to diverse learner needs.
  • Coordinate with external providers and manage crisis intervention services.
  • Deliver weekly at-hope counseling groups (i.e, gender identity groups, anti-bullying groups, etc.)
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to maintain a positive behavior support climate and address student concerns effectively.

Supervision and Leadership:

  • Lead weekly individual and group supervision sessions for the clinical team.
  • Identify and provide development for the clinical and therapeutic skills of teh clinical team.
  • Collaborate weekly with the team to discuss caseloads, feedback, next steps, and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance of documentation and needed credentials.

Deliverables:

Clinical Supervision and Counseling:

  • Conduct weekly clinical supervision sessions with the social workers and guidance counselors.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of counseling sessions and interventions.
  • Provide crisis intervention support as needed for students in the caseload.
  • Develop and oversee a system for measuring student growth related to clinical goals.

School Wide Supports:

  • Develop and implement strategies to support 4th and 5th-grade families with the middle school application process.
  • Participate actively in the SST to implement behavioral systems and practices.
  • Establish connections with external providers and manage crisis interventions effectively.

Supervision and Leadership:

  • Conduct weekly individual and group supervision sessions for mental health providers.
  • Develop and deliver professional development opportunities for mental health providers.
  • Ensure compliance with licensure requirements and maintain accurate documentation.

Qualifications

  • Current licensure in New York State as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with a minimum of 2 years of successful licensure and in good standing.
  • Completed supervisory courses to supervise registered Social Workers (LMSWs), Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs), or Mental Health Counselors (LMHCs).
  • School-based certification or credentialing highly preferred.
  • 5 years of experience as a School Social Worker, School Marriage Family Therapist, or similar position highly preferred.
  • Supervision experience.
  • Experience working with elementary-age students in a school setting highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with special education, IEP team participation, and educationally related mental health services highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with socio-emotional learning competencies, trauma-informed education practices, multi-tiered systems of supports (MTSS), and restorative practices a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills as demonstrated by the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and with a diverse population of students.
  • Eagerness to collaborate with peers and develop highly collaborative teams
  • Growth mindset and an ability to use feedback to improve teaching practices
  • Ability to present data in multiple formats (charts, reports, comparisons, trend analysis, etc.)
  • Commitment and passion for working with students.
