Job Summary
MESA is looking for a motivated SAFETY professional to drive our SAFETY culture forward through process improvement, training, and relationship building. This position will be responsible for leading training presentations, conducting audits of project sites and facilities, and maintaining SAFETY data. This position will report to the SAFETY Director, and will work closely with leadership on incident investigations, near miss reports, training, and other SAFETY-related needs as assigned.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure federal, state and local SAFETY laws, regulations, codes and rules are observed, and that OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements are met
  • Act as a point of contact for addressing employee concerns regarding health and SAFETY policies
  • Conduct audits of work practices and processes for potential SAFETY hazards. Report findings and/or recommendations to management
  • Perform inspections, site visits, and incident investigations as required. Implement corrective actions
  • Perform risk assessments to determine appropriate means of mitigation: Engineering, Administrative, PPE
  • Investigate personal injury and property damage accidents. Prepare incident reports and file government reports, as required. Provide reports to company leadership and follow up on corrective action
  • Provide training or arrange for third-party training, as required, while ensuring all field teams complete required annual training
  • Be an active and effective liaison with customer personnel
  • Onboard new hires through training and transparent discussions about expectations
  • Act as primary point of contact for assigned field group when required. This may include leading SAFETY team meetings, hosting lessons learned sessions, and directing SAFETY stand downs
  • Build relationships with field crews and team leadership to establish the presence of the SAFETY team
  • Guide leadership with recommendations and observations to help improve our SAFETY culture
  • Serve as back-up for Compliance Specialist, Fleets Manager and other SAFETY team members
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in SAFETY, Environmental Health Sciences, Occupational SAFETY, or related field
  • At least two years’ experience as a SAFETY professional in a construction environment.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, including 29 CFR 1910 (General Industry) and 29 FCR 1926 (Construction).
  • Strong knowledge of DOT: Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Association (PHMSA), Federal Motor Carrier Association (FMCSA) regulations and laws regarding interstate commerce.
  • Basic understanding of standard SAFETY training courses (OSHA 10, Smith System Driver, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified by the Board of SAFETY Professionals (BCSP)
  • Experience with client compliance portals and operator qualifications (ISN, Veriforce, NCCER, etc.)
  • Experience onboarding and training new employees
Any compensation range provided for a role is an estimate determined by available market data. The actual amount may be higher or lower than the range provided considering each candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location. If you have questions, please speak to your recruiter about the flexibility and detail of our compensation philosophy. For this role, we anticipate paying $70,000 – $90,000 per year.
