Job DescriptionSeeking a Melt Shop Services Engineer for a traveling position with our client based in Ozark, AR. This position is one of the primary technical contacts for our client’s customers for technical issues, value added services, and melt shop process expertise. Has responsibility for technical customer services, systems, and support in multiple regions. Collects, analyzes, and reports product performance data and operation/furnace conditions to aid further development in the GE/CE field. Develops and maintains customer relationships with key technical and operations stakeholders and acts as liaison with the key TCGE operations and technical stakeholders.
Essential Job FunctionsResponsible for managing external customer projects, analysis of potential customer technical improvements, and melt shop value added service systems development, deployment, and support for AC and DC furnaces, scrap charged or DRI charged for the carbon steel and stainless steel industries.
Analyze EAF/LMF operations utilizing electrical equipment and offer specific recommendations to improve electrode performance, EAF/LMF performance, and optimize customer production costs
Obtain and communicate EAF/LMF performance parameters to the Commercial, Technology, and Manufacturing departments to assist in proper product selection and product development
Ensuring that work does not adversely impact the safety of customer personnel, customer production facilities, or customer environmental controls
Support and document electrode trials under varying operating conditions in order to provide effective feedback to Technology and Manufacturing departments
Report in a timely manner, each client visit through company’s reporting system (database, standard visit reports, etc.) and associated Technical Sales personnel
Promote proper electrode handling and increase customer awareness of specific individual shop factors which affect electrode performance
Investigate customer complaints and concerns regarding application, quality and reliability of TCGE products at customer’s location
Organize technical workshops, trainings, and seminars with customers
Partners with the Technical Sales Group to define and support service/sales strategies
Analyze customers’ critical needs and drivers from a technical/manufacturing perspective to provide efficient and effective technical service systems and assist determining the appropriate TCGE product to be produced for the application
Align customers’ melt shop business strategic intent from their manufacturing/operations perspective (e.g. new capital expenditures, new business, product development) to assure effective selection and utilization of products/services
Identify potential projects and expected results in agreement with customers
Defining budget, calculating benefits, proposal of win-win shares for both customer and Tokai Carbon GE LLC, and accounting for project results Assuming technical responsibility for successful project sequences, including, as needed, customer technical specialists, regional technical service efforts, and third parties (engineering consultants) Develop effective relationships with customers’ key technical/manufacturing personnel Analyze and report on the strengths and weaknesses of all graphite suppliers based on customer perceptions and results, as well as other market sources to competitively position our products and services
Align TCGE’s internal resources with our customers’ key decision drivers and proactively resolve their issues to increase customer satisfaction and gain market share
Support TCGE commercial/service strategies by integrating technical and manufacturing knowledge of the customers into the overall commercial strategy
Continuously improve overall technical proficiency of TCGE commercial organization
Assist TCGE Technical Service Manager to define, develop, and implement customer-oriented services, systems, trainings, and projects
Present technical papers, publications in various technical or commercial events (AIST, METEC, SEAISI)
Establish relationship with various furnace and electrode handling equipment suppliers for technical information exchange
Ensures proper documentation of projects and systems
Perform other duties as required that are in support of the department’s goals
RequirementsTechnical degree (BS or MS) with 5 years of expertise in the steel industry OR minimum 15 years of expertise in the steel industry
Electric arc furnace knowledge (regulation, maintenance, operation)
Basic knowledge of graphite products and applications
Working knowledge of ERP systems (D365, SAP)
Demonstrate ability to develop strong working relationships with technical and operations personnel
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate complex technical issues, ideas, and concepts to stakeholders, operators, and business groups for reporting and/or decision-making purposes
Strong project management skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, BI reporting software, and statistical software
Ability to work well without close supervision and make effective decisions
Strong analysis / problem solving skills Good negotiation skills
Strong customer service skills and organizational skills
Familiarity with power monitoring devices, including connection, data collection, and analysis a plus
PLC/Automation programming skills a plus
Knowledge of AC transformer and DC rectiformer systems a plus
Experience with database queries
Python programming language, and scripting a plus
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear, and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee may regularly be required to stoop, crouch, or crawl, and to reach with hands and arms. Regularly, the employee is required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. This position requires close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires travel to customer sites – Steel Mills. Our customers are using our electrodes to melt down scrap steel which is required to reach temperatures above 3000°ree;F. The employee will be exposed to heat, dust, fumes and a high level of noise in a fast-paced heavy manufacturing environment. Will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Will work at precarious heights and near moving mechanical parts, heavy machinery, and high temperatures. Tasks must be performed in the safest manner possible by respecting all customer and TCGE corporate safety rules. Willing to travel extensively – up to 80% within North America and occasional international (overseas) travel.
