Meta is Hiring a Network Engineer, Operations and Support Near Denver, CO

Meta is seeking a forward thinking leader with advanced technical and operational expertise to join the Edge & Network Service (ENS) Operations team. In this role, you will oversee a portfolio of vendors and lead initiatives to improve reliability, efficiency, and risk management in one of the most dynamic fast-paced networks in the world. The right candidate will enjoy digging into operational problems in order to align and implement technical and business solutions via hands on network engineering leadership, automation, process improvement, and data analysis. They will also be comfortable in a fast-moving organization working across diverse stakeholders within physical infrastructure, network design, engineering, strategy, security, policy, and legal teams to solve urgent and long-term initiatives.
Network Engineer, Operations and Support Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Provide expert root cause and corrective action leadership to resolve any and all operational issues found across edge and backbone architectures, hardware platforms, and vendor performance.
  • Operational Excellence and Team Leadership: This role will own the planning and execution of an organizational-level roadmap and strategy to deliver operational excellence. As an operations practitioner within the ENS team you will be expected to drive operational excellence in everything we do. In this role, you will directly or indirectly oversee a large contingent workforce responsible for delivering roadmapped projects and executing on recurring operational activities. As such, identifying improvement opportunities across policies, processes, and procedures is essential to improve efficiency and quality of the activities. You will drive standards across the network and ensure that we are fully compliant to those standards and policies.
  • Incident Response: Directly drive work investigating complex technical and process issues on a global scale spanning multiple security and continuity disciplines for infra spanning thousands of locations across 100 countries during major incidents/site events (SEVs) on edge, caching, and network infrastructure. This will require you to work closely and effectively with a variety of cross functional teams, managed service providers, and third-party vendor partners.
  • Collaboration and Partnership: You will work closely on supporting our internal customers and ensuring that their needs and issues are being addressed proactively across global sites. You will also participate in cross-organizational design reviews and make recommendations to support operational strategy to include business or technical problems that need to be solved.
  • Risk Management and Assurance: Work internally and with upstream partner teams to assure design, build, and operations aligns to applicable reliability, security, privacy, regulatory, and business continuity drivers.
  • Escalation Management: Participate in the global team's Tier III on-call rotation with the goal of routing issues as needed and understanding how processes or tooling might be improved, skills can be developed, or automation can be implemented to prevent the need to escalate similar issues in the future.
  • Change Management: You will be integral to identifying problems and implementing effective solutions across highly cross-functional infrastructure teams to include network engineering, logistics, supply chain, compliance, legal, software system engineering, and program management to scale with the rapid expansion of the Meta platform and customer base.
  • Travel: International and Domestic travel may be required up to 15%.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years working within global edge network and/or content distribution operations, deployment, and/or design teams.
  • 10 years of work experience partnering with infrastructure engineers within varied infrastructure environments, such as colocation facilities, cable landing stations, ILAs, owned data centers, or corporate campuses.
  • 5 years of work experience partnering with enterprise and service provider network hardware platforms and architectures, such as Cisco, Juniper, Ciena, Infinera, Nokia, and Arista platforms.
  • 5 years of logical troubleshooting and physical repair with an understanding of physical infrastructure such as cable types, connector types, optic types, racks, patch panels, power/cooling, hardware components, and facility infrastructure.
  • CDN and Edge Expertise: Demonstrate Expert level subject matter expertise in CDN & Network Services, peering network strategies, including topology, traffic analysis, linux operating systems, hardware platform, and architectures.
  • Network Protocol Expertise: Demonstrate Expert level subject matter expertise in TCP/IP, IPv4/v6, BGP, ISIS, OSPF, and/or MPLS via network certifications, such as CCNA/CCNP, JNCIA/JNCIS, RHCSA or equivalent experience.
  • Experience successfully collaborating across their own team and with cross-functional partners at all levels to include organizational leaders to influence, align, and execute on goals.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10 years of direct leadership experience with a global Network Operations Center (NOC) or IT Operations Center environment and managing SLAs and continuous improvement against metrics at scale.
  • Automation Expertise: Demonstrate experience coding and automating in higher-level languages such as Python, Go, or JavaScript.
  • Operational System Expertise: Demonstrate Intermediate level experience managing the integration and maintenance of systems for monitoring, alerting, and repairing networks.
  • Data Analytics: Demonstrate experience to apply data driven analysis and leverage technologies like machine learning and predictive modeling algorithms to solve complex business problems.
