Assistant Director Job Description

_ Assistant Director _who will make a difference in the lives of young children and families while effectively and efficiently supporting the operations of the school. As an Assistant Center Director, you will: Assist the Center Director in leading teaching staff, supporting families, and achieving enrollment, accreditation, and operational objectives. Partner with parents with a shared desire to provide the best care and education for their children. Cultivate positive relationships with families, teachers, state licensing authorities, community contacts and corporate partners. Serve in various roles throughout the center as needed including teacher, cook and/or driver

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work independently with initiative to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Strong organizational, planning and analytical skills
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Proficient in the use of office equipment, including personal computers, copiers, fax, scanners, and related software.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Have working knowledge of children’s physical, emotional and developmental ages and stages
  • Able to maintain professionalism at all time, representing MCDC in excellence
  • Able to respond appropriately to emergencies

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain compliance with state licensing and accreditation standards, as well as USDA, DSS, CACFP, and Health Department/Sanitation regulations and reporting deadlines.
  • Always maintain proper staff/child ratios .
  • Maintain child and staff files to ensure compliance with NC state regulations.
  • Maintain a child-centered, inviting, and attractive school.
  • Maximize client retention through effective customer relationship management.
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary environment for children in compliance with Health Department regulations.
  • Lead tours to prospective parents, ensuring the school is always tour-ready and consistently following up in order to maximize enrollment capacity.
  • Meet with and welcome all new families. Maintain professional and supportive relationships with families.
  • Process new enrollee paperwork and ensure file is complete.
  • Communicate with parents on child’s progress and development. Keep parents informed about events or changes in the school and classrooms.
  • Identify and communicate with the Director the school’s need for equipment and materials. Ensure that classroom and playground equipment are well maintained and inspected.
  • Assist with budget management and operate within budget parameters under guidance of the Director.
  • Respond to staff concerns/problems and counsel to help find solutions. Facilitate conflict resolution among staff members.
  • Implement company policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Operate within budget parameters under guidance of the Director.
  • Follow set reporting procedures to Director and Corporate personnel, including electronic database reporting and management.
  • Ensure collection of tuition and other fees in absence of Director.
  • Work effectively in the kitchen with or as the Dietician when needed.
  • Manage staff time off requests and teacher coverage
  • Provide staff recruitment support; i.e. job postings, interview scheduling, resume management
  • Cover in the classrooms as needed.
  • Works effectively with MCDC Corporate personnel members and implements strategic tactics as indicated.
  • Adhere to all MCDC policies as set forth in the Team Orientation and Personnel Handbook.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's or bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development with two years of childcare and staff management experience in a center or preschool setting preferred.
  • Understands the developmental levels of children ages six weeks to 9 years
  • Must meet licensing, education, and degree requirements set by state of NC
  • Current qualifying letter from the North Carolina DCDEE preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Lift up to 20lbs on a regular basis
  • Repetitive bending, stretching, stooping and climbing up and down steps
  • Have mobility to ensure the safety of the children
  • Perform light cleaning duties
  • Push up to 50lbs of weight
  • Work outdoors in any variety of weather
  • Work with children on the floor
  • Have visual and hearing capabilities consistent with childcare licensing safety requirements
