Methodist University is Hiring an Associate Dean of Students Near Fayetteville, NC

We are seeking an Associate Dean of Students who will serve as a Student Affairs Leadership team member and is responsible for comprehensive oversight of the assigned functional areas: Residence Life and Housing, Counseling Services, and Health Services. The Associate Dean of Students is the division's deputy chief. This professional will directly oversee several programs, initiatives, and services the Division of Student Affairs provides.
The Associate Dean of Students plays a crucial role in supporting the mission, goals, and objectives of Methodist University and the Division of Student Affairs. This position is not just a job but a vital part of our community. It is expected to fulfill all rules, regulations, and guidelines of Methodist University and serve as an appropriate role model for all students of the University. The Associate Dean of Students reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, reflecting the significance of this role in our organizational structure.
As the Associate Dean of Students, you will have the opportunity to contribute to various areas of student support within the Division of Student Affairs, the student code of conduct system, and the daily administration of the Division of Student Affairs. This role is about fulfilling responsibilities, continuous learning, and growth in a dynamic and supportive environment.
  • Provide the overall management and supervision of the division in the absence of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, which includes Housing and residence life, counseling services, health services, campus recreation, student belonging and inclusion, dining services, and campus engagement which houses student activities, fraternity, and sorority life and the student government association and provides general oversight over all clubs and organizations.
  • As the Associate Dean of Students, you will not be alone in your responsibilities. You will have the full support and resources for counseling services, health, residence life, and conduct systems, all working together to support and care for all students fully. This collaborative approach ensures you can confidently and effectively carry out your duties.
  • The Associate Dean of Students collaborates with cross-functional teams from various areas to enhance student retention and contribute to the exciting new campus initiative on holistic student well-being, fostering a culture of teamwork and shared responsibility.
  • Assist with integrating student affairs functions with academics, well-being, mental health, physical health, spirituality, etc., so that students can live a more fully integrated life as students.
  • Coordinate the senior staff on-call schedule.
  • Design and facilitate training for all on-call personnel in student affairs.
Specific Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
  • Supervise and execute the student code of conduct system. Use and facilitate restorative practices, philosophy, and discipline when addressing code of conduct issues among students.
  • Work closely with the Chief Justice and advise the student community court.
  • Investigate alleged violations of the student code of conduct. Maintain accurate files on all student discipline cases.
  • Monitor students’ fulfillment of imposed sanctions resulting from violations of the code of conduct.
  • Adjudicate code of conduct cases.
  • Chair the Student Affairs Case Management Team, which tracks, advises, and counsels troubled and/or troubling students.
  • Assume on-call responsibilities on a rotating basis.
  • Counsel and advise students about university/life issues that will help them navigate through their collegiate journey.
  • Address campus emergencies and urgent issues that arise daily.
  • Serve as a Title IX Deputy Coordinator, coordinating investigations of reports and reports.
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs on University retention initiatives and lead and coordinate Student Affairs retention initiatives that align with university strategic initiatives.
  • Assist in coordinating and planning the Division of Student Affairs professional and staff development retreats, conferences, and seminars.
  • Attend all Student Affairs staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Attend the administrative committee meetings and other University functions in the absence of the Vice President for Student Affairs
  • Participate in committee assignments designated by the Vice President for Student Affairs.
  • Design and facilitate higher education training for all Student Affairs staff members.
  • Work with the Vice President to establish, implement, and maintain a student affairs curriculum across every functional area.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President for Mission Integration and Student Wellbeing to align the division's well-being efforts. Lead specific well-being efforts on behalf of the division. Design and implement various strategies to ensure a healthy student population.
  • Coordinate all assessment efforts within the division.
  • Other duties may be assigned by the Vice President for Student Affairs as needed.
Experience/Education
  • Master's degree required; doctoral degree in higher education preferred.
  • Seven or more years of experience in student affairs administration or equivalent experience in other appropriate student affairs administration or related fields required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to proficiently manage multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated experience working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to foster positive and productive relationships with all campus constituencies, including institutional leaders, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and proven ability to meet the needs of a diverse student population and to promote intercultural understanding.
  • Demonstrated financial and budget management skills and the ability to interpret and prepare departmental budgets and other financial reports.
  • Knowledge of the Clery Act, VAWA, Campus Save Act, Title IX, CAS standards, and NaBita Standards is required.
