Our Award-Winning Client is seeking a Maintenance Unit Supervisor for the Rolling Department. This role involves providing leadership and guidance to the crew to meet production requirements efficiently in a lean manufacturing environment (ABS). Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, this position ensures productivity, safety, quality, improved recovery, reliable delivery performance, and rapid problem-solving in a customer-centric environment. These goals are achieved using lean manufacturing principles, instructing and guiding employees towards target conditions. The results include waste elimination, secure flow, visual factory creation, and high levels of employee effort.

Responsibilities

  • Lead individual safety discussions and job-specific safety reviews.
  • Allocate and assign tasks to crew members, prioritizing work based on business criticality.
  • Deploy appropriate crewing arrangements for planned and unplanned situations based on absences, schedule requirements, equipment availability, and vacations within labor agreement guidelines.
  • Gather data to support root cause analysis and problem-solving for major exceptions.
  • Lead a technically capable, diverse, customer-oriented, responsive, and flexible maintenance workforce.
  • Support operating results through subordinate management, emphasizing quantity, quality, timeliness, safety, recovery, and delivery performance.
  • Maintain a safe work environment that protects people and the environment.
  • Collaborate with craftspeople to apply root cause analysis and rapid problem-solving techniques to maintain or restore production.
  • Develop individuals by providing challenging assignments and offering training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Manage assets effectively, ensuring proper equipment operations, world-class availability, and long-term viability.
  • Advance business objectives regarding quality, costs, waste elimination, and lean manufacturing.
  • Make fair and equitable decisions about performance recognition, rewards, and discipline, supported by appropriate documentation.
  • Develop relationships and influence others to resolve problems, change minds, or directly produce customer satisfaction.
  • Work 12-hour rotating shifts, changing every 6-12 weeks based on business conditions from days to nights.

Basic Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on maintenance experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience with direct reports.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations), requiring U.S. person status (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Mechanical background.
  • Experience in a union environment.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing (ABS) principles and concepts.

Additional Information

Our client seeks candidates with industrial maintenance and leadership experience, particularly in heavy manufacturing. Residential or commercial facility maintenance experience is not applicable. The role involves working 12-hour shifts, 4 days on, 4 days off, with rotations from days to nights every 2-3 months. Multiple openings are available at our client's Davenport Works rolling mill facility in Bettendorf, Iowa.
