Metro Water Recovery is Hiring an Environmental Compliance Specialist I/ II (Industrial PreTreatment-Multi-Level Position) Near Denver, CO

This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon the candidate's qualifications: 
Industrial Pretreatment Program Specialist I ($70,012.80 - $97,676.80 Annually)Performs a variety of duties to implement aspects of Metro’s EPA approved Industrial Pretreatment Program. Conducts Clean Water Act required inspections, waste characterizations, permitting, compliance evaluations, and enforcement. Works under the direction of the Industrial Pretreatment Program Supervisors. 
Industrial Pretreatment Program Specialist II ($75,608.00 - $105,497.60 Annually)Performs a variety of duties to implement aspects of Metro’s EPA approved Industrial Pretreatment. Conducts Clean Water Act required inspections, waste characterizations, permitting, compliance evaluations, and enforcement for more complex facilities. Works under the direction of the Industrial Pretreatment Program Supervisors. This position is being posted at multiple levels. Industrial Pretreatment Program Specialist II Qualifications:
Industrial Pretreatment Program Specialist I 

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree or equivalent in science or related field and two years’ experience with pretreatment/industrial waste programs, wastewater experience, or other environmental compliance programs (such as stormwater permitting, NPDES permitting, air permitting, hazardous waste program management) including, inspections, and enforcement. Experience with identifying, evaluating, interpreting, and explaining environmental laws, rules, and regulations applicable to implementation of pretreatment/industrial waste programs or other regulatory compliance programs. Experience meeting deadlines, planning, and coordinating work, and writing accurate reports. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and experience working in databases. Good mathematical and data analysis skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with people of varying backgrounds, knowledge, and experience.

Desired Qualifications

B.S. or M.S. degree in engineering or a directly related science field. Strong knowledge of Industrial Pretreatment Program implementation procedures. Knowledge of industrial manufacturing practices, wastewater treatment, and regulatory control. Familiarity with hazardous waste identification, storage, labeling, and disposal. Experience inspecting a wide variety of complex industrial manufacturing facilities. 

Industrial Pretreatment Program Specialist II  

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering or a directly related science field and two years’ experience with pretreatment/industrial waste programs including permitting, inspections, and enforcement. Experience identifying, evaluating, interpreting, and explaining environmental laws, rules and regulations applicable to implementation of pretreatment/industrial waste programs. The ability to meet deadlines, to plan and coordinate work, and to write complete and accurate reports. Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience working in databases. Strong mathematical and data analysis skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with people of varying backgrounds, knowledge, and experience.

Strong knowledge of Industrial Pretreatment Program implementation procedures, including categorical Pretreatment Standards. Knowledge of industrial manufacturing practices, wastewater treatment, and regulatory control. Familiarity with hazardous waste identification, storage, labeling, and disposal. Experience inspecting a wide variety of complex industrial manufacturing facilities. 

Work Environment

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; wet or humid conditions (non-weather); fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; and risk of radiation less than 1/3 of the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feet; and talk or hear more than 2/3 of the time. The employee is required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms less than 1/3 of the time. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds less than 1/3 of the time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
