Residential Fire Alarm Technician (Milwaukee County, WI)

We are currently seeking full-time Residential Fire Alarm Technician who will be responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, inspecting, and troubleshooting fire alarm systems for residential apartment complexes, including fire alarms, fire suppression, and smoke detection systems

National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) certification level for Alarm System Testing and Water-Based System Testing preferred.

Other qualifications and responsibilities might arise as deemed necessary by circumstances.

Must be available for emergency response work after-hours and on weekends.

This is a full-time position requiring regular attendance in accordance with Metropolitan Associates’ attendance policy, valid driver’s license, and a reliable vehicle as frequent travel is required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Install, program, configure, commission, maintain, trouble shoot, perform diagnostics, and repair of fire alarm systems and fire suppression systems, which requires familiarity with Fire Lite, Kidde, Potter and other various fire systems.
  • Ensure compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), including performing annual device testing for fire alarm systems and complete and maintain all records required by NFPA-72.
  • Performs basic programming for electronic components of fire alarm systems.
  • Assist in testing of fire systems including fire sprinkler valves, smoke control systems.
  • Perform fire alarm system take offs and layout.
  • Maintain and rewire pressure and flow switches.
  • Responds to electrical service or trouble calls, troubleshoots various problems/issues, and provides problem resolution.
  • Prepares working sketches and works from blueprints, schematics, and written or verbal instructions.
  • Prioritizes daily work orders and repairs.
  • Maintains records and prepares daily activity reports and follow applicable building codes.
  • Works with Maintenance Technician Supervisors and Restoration Technicians as need relating to the installation of fire alarm and fire suppression systems.
  • Works with Residential Fire Safety Auditors as needed relating to fire prevention initiatives.
  • Assists in the maintenance and repair work in a variety of skilled trades areas.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Physically capable of lifting 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Experienced in operating a variety of equipment, including circular saw, drill, jig saw, electrical tester, hand tools, power tools, cordless tools.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be available for emergency response work after-hours and on weekends.
