Minimal Qualifications:
Required:
  • Master’s degree in Chemistry;
  • OR Master’s degree in any field with at least 18 GCH in a combination of the qualifying fields: Chemistry (any); Organic Chemistry; Biochemistry
Alternative Qualifications:
A PharmD degree with at least 18 GCH in Chemistry or chemistry-related coursework such as Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacokinetics, Biopharmaceutics, General Medicine Advanced Pathophysiology, Advanced Drug Therapy, Toxicology, Compounding, Physical Pharmacy, and Analytical Methods is qualifying.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the community college philosophy. Demonstrated interest in and passion for teaching community college students.

Work Hours
Normally scheduled Monday through Friday; however, may be required to work other shifts to include evenings and/or weekends. Schedule subject to change based upon department needs. Full-time/9-month position limited duration (170 Contract Days).
Compensation
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Brief Description of Duties:
Overall Position Description:
Full-time members of the faculty are professional educators who have the primary responsibility of instruction and management of assigned classes. Additional responsibilities include fulfilling the Metropolitan Community College mission, vision, values, strategic plan, Board of Trustees’ charges and educational philosophy, and primary goal of providing a quality education for all students attending the college.
Essential Faculty Duties:
  • Deliver effective instruction – Provide quality instruction, which is reflective of current discipline standards and is accurate, relevant, and engaging using college-approved curriculum and resources. Assigned classes may include daytime, evening, off-campus, virtual, hybrid, and/or online modalities.
  • Assess student learning – Demonstrate reflective practice, including assessment of student learning. This includes ongoing formative assessments, as well as official departmental assessment. Actively participate in course assessment activities and utilize student learning outcomes for continual improvement.
  • Manage classes and learning environments – Maintain timely and accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress. Foster a positive classroom-learning environment by presenting information in a way that is inclusive to all learners.
  • Support learning through student engagement – Incorporate pedagogical strategies such as active learning, authentic and problem-based activities, and other successful teaching strategies into classroom instruction.
  • Provide student guidance – Help students develop academic habits for college success. Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours.
  • Pursue professional development – Engage in continual professional development in subject matter content or in teaching methodology and technology.
  • Support an inclusive campus environment – Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
  • Participate in shared governance committees, processes, and initiatives. Actively participate collegially in department, campus, cross-college, discipline-specific, district, and community service activities.
  • Participate in hiring committees for adjunct and/or full-time faculty in the discipline or in representing the campus.
  • Advocate for the program or discipline assigned through recruitment events, community presentations, visits with potential students, and other outreach functions.
  • Cooperate with and participate as may be required in District investigations and/or student grievance matters of alleged unlawful harassment, discrimination, and retaliation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to provide a high-quality learning experience for students, including participating in commencement, attending college functions, complete required District trainings such as Title IX, Mandated Reporter, EEO/Diversity/Elimination of Bias, Workplace Safety, Cybersecurity, etc.
Environment:
Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with frequent interruptions and distractions. Requires extended periods of time viewing computer monitor or standing; may require adjustment of schedule to include some evening and/or weekends; may encounter occasional exposure to inclement weather during travel.
Physical:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting with or without reasonable accommodation; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.

  • Recent successful teaching experience in the subject area at the community college level.
