Position Title: TemporaryProgram Associate

Location: Pleasant Valley/Butler Creek Elementary School

Reports To: Program Coordinator(SUN Site Manager)

Dept/Program: Community Schools – Pleasant Valley / Butler Creek Elementary

FTE: 1.0 FTE (40 hours/week) – Limited Duration – position will begin July 1, 2024 and end on or before August 15, 2024

General Description:

This position is a temporary, limited duration position located at two sites, Pleasant Valley and Butler Creek Elementary Schools. This position will begin on July 1, 2024 and end on or before August 15, 2024. This position does not offer benefits at this time.

General Function: 

Under the direct supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Program Associate is responsible for assisting in the administration and logistical support of summer programming of two summer programs; Pleasant Valley and Butler Creek Elementary.  Both Sites will be housed in one location as one summer enrichment program in Centennial School District. Responsibilities include but are not limited to providing assistance in the everyday happenings in the summer program, supervision and safety of students/ participants, data collection and entry for student and adult programs, and coordination of summer program activities and family engagement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with school employees, community partners, volunteers, and program staff
  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety procedures to ensure the safety of all participants during the duration of programming
  • Assist in the development and implementation of training materials for staff and volunteers
  • Assist with outreach and recruitment of community organizations and resources to support family health and social service needs
  • Support events and programs for the summer enrichment program listed elementary sites.
  • Attend regular, on going program and curriculum training as directed
  • Comply with Metropolitan Family Service policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Comply with Elementary School policies and procedures
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Minimum of two years of experience in volunteer management, community engagement, social work or related human services field
  • Knowledge and/or experience with extended school programs
  • Experience coordinating youth services and working with elementary school aged youth
  • Experience coordinating and training volunteers
  • Experience and knowledge of positive youth development models and practices
  • Ability to acquire a Food Handlers certification
  • General understanding of employment laws, rules and regulations
  • Experience in developing and supervision of academic enrichment and/or recreational programs
  • Ability to communicate effectively (read, write and speak) in English
  • Work effectively within a team-dependent environment.
  • Competency in using G-Suite, Word, Excel and database programs
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to proactively problem-solve and resolve conflict
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
  • Possess excellent time management and organizational skills

Other Requirements:

Personal transportation allows for travel within the Portland Metropolitan area in a timely manner. If driving a personal vehicle must maintain a valid driver license for the state of residency, personal auto liability insurance coverage and a driving record permitting coverage under the agency auto liability policy.

MFS requires all employees and volunteers to complete a criminal background check which includes a fingerprint background check. We review the results of all background checks individually and consider all of the circumstances of any issues that arise in a background check during the hiring process.

Work Environment:

Work is normally performed on site at the above named school but may require some hybrid option during non program days with prior supervisor approval. Position requires ability to sit for extended periods as well as stand occasionally. Position requires use of computer, telephone, fax machine, copier and may require accessing locations by use of stairs.
