JOB SUMMARY & PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS
REPORTS TO: Exceptional Education Director of Early Childhood and Related Services

DEPARTMENT NAME: Exceptional Education

JOB SUMMARY (2-3 sentences): Serves as LEA for early childhood assessment teams, TEIS transition meetings, and/or community based sites (Head Start). Supports all professionals on assessment teams and itinerant special education at assigned site. Interacts with families as the point of contact and information for MNPS early childhood.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS: List, in the order of time spent, the essential tasks performed by the position. Employees may be assigned additional duties by management as required.
Job Responsibility 1:

Serves as LEA for eligibility and IEP meetings to include intake assessment sites as well as community-based partners.

Job Responsibility 2:

Conducts TEIS transition meetings for families of students in early intervention services.

Job Responsibility 3:

Acts as team lead at assessment sites for scheduling, problem-solving, and other activites at early childhood intake with assigned assessment specialists (school psychologist, speech pathologist, special education teacher, occupational therapist, physical therapists, etc.). Ensures all IDEA and TDOE guidelines and compliance procedures are being followed.

Job Responsibility 4:

Attends Exceptional Education district meetings and trainings to remain highly knowledgable of the distict direction with instruction, inclusion, and other issues related to early childhood, school-age, and special education services.

Job Responsibility 5:

Is an early childhood point of contact for families, schools, and community paretners in regards to questions and concerns prior to and during the intake assessment, eligibility process and transition into early childhood services in schools.

Job Responsibility 6:

Provides information and resurces for parents and community members to support support families and students.

Job Responsibility 7:

Collaborates with internal and external partners to support student and adult learning.

Job Responsibility 8:

Reviews trends in early childhood education and remains highly knowledgeable and demonstrates clear communication regarding evidence-based best practices.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES, REQUIREMENTS, AND IMPACTS

COMMUNICATIONS REQUIREMENTS : " Communications" involves the ability to read, write, and speak.
Reads journals and manuals; composes specialized reports and business letters using proper format and grammar; speaks to groups of coworkers and people outside the organization.
COMPLEXITY OF WORK : " Complexity of Work" addresses the analysis, initiative, ingenuity, creativity, and concentration required by the position and the presence of any unusual pressures.
Performs work involving the application of logical principles and thinking to solve practical problems within or applying to a unit or division of the organization; requires continuous, close attention for accurate results and frequent exposure to unusual pressure.
IMPACT OF DECISIONS : " Impact of Decisions" refers to consequences such as damage to property, loss of data or property, exposure of the organization to legal liability, or injury or death to individuals.
Makes decisions with serious impact - affects most units in organization, and may affect citizens.
EQUIPMENT USAGE : "Equipment Usage" refers to inanimate objects such as substances, materials, machines, tools, equipment, work aids, or products. A thing is tangible and has shape, form, and other physical characteristics.
Establishes methods and procedures for acquiring and handling machines, tools, equipment, or work aids involving extensive latitude for judgment regarding attainment of standard or in selecting appropriate items .
SAFETY OF OTHERS : " Safety of Others" refers to the responsibility for other people's safety, either inherent in the job or to assure the safety of the general public.
Requires considerable responsibility for the safety and health of others and/or continuous enforcement of the laws and standards of public health and safety.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS : " Education Requirements" refers to job specific training and education required for entry into the position.
Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred); early childhood emphasis preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED : " Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations" refers to professional, state, or federal licenses, certifications, or registrations required to enter the position.

Valid Tennessee teaching license.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : " Experience Requirements" refers to the amount of work experience that is required for entry into the position that would result in reasonable expectation that the person can perform the tasks required by the position.
Minimum of three years classroom teaching experience including classroom experience with early childhood instruction.
More specific degree, certification, and experience requirements will be included in the position announcement as vacancies occur.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS : " Physical Demands" refers to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Requires medium to heavy work involving exerting up to 70 pounds of force on a frequent basis and exceptional dexterity and skill in operating machinery, tools, or equipment.
UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS : " Unavoidable Hazards" refers to unusual conditions in the work environment that may cause illness or injury.
The position is exposed to extreme heat/cold, wet or humid conditions, bright/dim lights, intense noise levels, vibration, fumes or noxious odors, moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, traffic, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
SENSORY (ADA) REQUIREMENTS : " Sensory Requirements" refers to hearing, sight, touch, taste, and smell necessary to perform the tasks required by the position efficiently.
The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, and texture perception.
