RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Locomotive Engineer Training Program prepares candidates for the position of Locomotive Engineer, the person responsible for the safe movement of trains and passengers under all operating conditions. A Locomotive Engineer must be knowledgeable in all operating rules, special instructions, physical characteristics of the entire railroad, air brake and equipment of all types of locomotives to include both diesel and multiple unit (electric), and competent at road troubleshooting of all equipment. An Engineer must be able to safely operate diesel and multiple unit trains.
The Locomotive Engineer Training Program, with its emphasis on rules, physical characteristics, mechanical operations, and train handling, is one of the most demanding and rewarding programs offered by the Railway. Candidates must qualify in all aspects of the job title (Passenger Service, Switching Crew, Work Trains).
